they are about the same price, really interested in where they are made. Big mystery lately with both nikon and bushnell having work done in different countries (depends on which model).. seems like the phillipine scopes are better quality than chinese. Hard to find a scope made in japan.
I think a good scope is harder to find than a good rifle.. thanks fellas |

The Bushnell is made in Japan. I'd take that just because it's a hair smaller and lighter than the buckmaster. Everyone says the rainguard is a neat feature too.
And the Viper that was mentioned is probably a reference to the closeout 2-7x32 here at SWFA that is currently $170ish. I have one, and it is nice. It's made in the Philippines. Edit- Just saw you mentioned adj obj, which probably means you'd be looking at a higher magnification scope... Edited by jason miller - March/11/2011 at 18:07 |

I think my buckmaster has better glass than my 3200. Sharper and brighter.
However, if your plans are hunting in bad weather, rainguard is hard to beat |

What "powers" are we talking here? I have both: 4.45-14, 6-18X Nikon; 7-21X Bushnell. Hands down the Buckmaster. Glass, to me is a notch better, and controls, etc. have a much-more "quality" feel to them. Nikon's excellent side-focus has sold me forever on that type; the Bushnell does focus down closer, however. I have little need for the Rainguard, and am not sure it isn't just another layer of "something" to have to look through; the 3200 feels dated now, but the lower closeout prices on (some of) them does help to level the field. I don't believe either brand's CS is the greatest.

I don't care about raingaurd or power.. I rarely go over 9x anyway.. Mostly I want bright, sharp image.. I believe the phillipine scopes are almost as good as the japanese. If the 3200 is made in japan I want it. I have no idea where the Nikon buckmaster is made, but really doubt it is made in japan.. Only the Nikon Monarch is made in japan ..(I think Nikon low-end scopes are made in the phillipines).. no offense to any chinese members here but I really don't want another chinese scope

Sounds like you should go with the Bushnell 3200.
Some people would prefer the Nikon Buckmaster or Monarch, the Vortex Diamondback or Viper, the Sightron SII, or the Burris FFII, but they are all made in the Philippines. |

IF...you can live with the BDC reticle, this makes for a really solid. less expensive scope.

Each to his own, but If I had to give up my Philippine made Buckmaster or a Japanese made 3200 and a bright, sharp image was the deciding factor ..... The 3200 would be gone. |

OK that helps. The monarch is too expensive for me, but glad to know it is made in the philipines. Rather have a japanese or US scope but the factory in philip is known good. The 3200 with adj objective is made in japan.. My parameters are (if anyone cares) : 40mm to 44mm objective with AO or sidefocus .. gotta have adj parallax.
THANKS fellas |

I wouldn't worry about scopes being made in the Phillipines. I currently have at least 5 that originated there:
Nikon Buckmasters 4.5-14 2 Burris Fullfield II 3-9's 2 Intensity Optics 6.5-20's I have been happy with them, given the prices I paid. I wish I could afford Leupolds or Zeiss's or other high dollar optics, but I have limited funds available for hobbies and like a little variety. I chose the Burris Fullfield II's 6 or 7 years ago and have had them mounted on a .270WSM and a 6.5x55 ever since. Both of them have served well and given no problems. The Buckmasters was on a Stevens 200 in .243 Winchester for 4 years or so and was recently transplanted to my new Sako A7 in .243 Win while I wait for my new Leupold VX3 to arrive. One of the Intensity 6.5-20's has been on a Weatherby Vanguard Varmint .223 for the past 4 years and has given good service. The other Intensity just took the place of the Buckmasters on the Stevens .243. FWIW. |

I just received the 3200 and it's great. I needed either AO or side focus so price limited my choices. Found a vortex diamondback for $300 but the 3200 was only $215 and made in japan (Light Optics Works) .. I understand the nikons are made in the philipines and of high quality. The Nikon buckmaster was $235 so my original post was asking your opinions of the buckmaster vs 3200 Elite.. sounds like both are pretty good, thanks for your help
