Im thinking about the Nikon Buckmaster for my ar-15 and the 6-18 seems like it would be a good power range.  So my first question is do any of you have experience with this scope and can tell me about it?  Secondly Ive never seen the reticles in a Nikon scope so are the crosshairs generally thick or thin in them.  I am mainly interested in the Nikoplex and the bullet drop one.   I think the BDC one would be interesting but i also like to be able to see small targets and not have the view cluttered so thats where the Nikoplex comes in.  I could really use some help on that part of the decision.  How is the field of view, brightness and clarity of this scope?  The 40mm objective in a 1" tube has me curious.  My other scopes are a simmons WTC-18 50mm obj, Mueller tactical 44mm  obj, and a Zeiss Diavari 56mm obj so i tend to go for the larger objectives. Thanks for any help, Major

I have a Buckmasters 6x18 40mm w/side focus.  VERY good scope for the money.  I will certainly work for your intended application(s).  I wouldn't hesitate to buy one if I had the same needs as you...

Hope this helps & best of luck.

blkexp98,

I think you would be happy with the BDC from Nikon.. I was shooting small targets 200-600 yards with no problem, and not one time was the target cluttered...Nikon BDC is a really great scope.

Can you give me any idea of the size of the reticle at a given distance.  Something like the crosshair covers 1/4" at 100 yds and the circles are about 3" at 100 yds with the same 1/4" outline.  How critical is eye positioning?  I plan to use it primarily for target shooting and want to be able to see the target as much as possable.  Thats why the Nikoplex caught my intrest because its crosshair seemed allot smaller than the BDC one.  The BDC would be a nice feature though.  Good to hear it isnt too busy in the reticle.  Thanks, Major

ETA:  Well it seems that the BDC reticle may be a little large for my uses after a call to nikon.  Here are the specs they gave me by the way:

Dot reticle:  Fine crosshair .05" @100 yds 18X, Dot .43" Dia @ 100 yds 18x

Nikoplex: Fine crosshair .11" @100 yds 18x, Heavy part .43" @100 yds 18x

BDC: Crosshair .25" @100 yds 18x, Heavy part 1" @100yds 18x, BDC circles 2" OD @100yds 18x

Im going to make a new post with some different requirements and a new heading since this doesnt seem to work out. Thanks, Major
