Trying to plan ahead for a proposed trip to African in the upcoming year. Am planning to get a 375 as a do anything rifle and would like to equipt it with a lower power variable, such nas the Nikon African in !". I ran a search on the board and found a series of other possibles.  Im generally satisfied with the Nikon products but not all. Wondered if anyone has any experience with the 1-4 variable such as "0" hold and general optical quality. ANother possibility is a low fixed power such as a 2 1/2(hunted with one of those for years-deer.chucks,predators etc. Was pretty solid to abt 400yds, but I could see then). What do you all think-optics incl low light, reliability??

The 1" seems to make the most sense, the 30mm is OK if its used for a cudgel or shooting @ 1000yd. Hard to justify the price escalation. Was considering abt $500 a reasonable limit. Many of the "been there" are advocates of the Leupold 2 1/2 fixed, dont dislike L. but wanted to consider a purpose built alternative.
