I've had both, would buy Nightforce before the IOR.

Nightforce is all but bullet-proof; IOR is hit-or-miss.

That said, IOR glass is very nice.

Wait for Ilya to post his review of the new IOR 3.5-18x50 scope - it apparently is amazing, has a great reticle, and purportedly is a lot tougher and sturdier than any previous offerings.

I have heard great things about the IORs of late (and own 2 at this time.)  The 'hit n miss" still applies, but for now they seem to be "hit."

As said above, the IOR glass will be better, but Nightforce has made a name by being consistent and great.

If you get a good IOR, they are fantastic scopes; if you get a dud, it can be a nightmare.

But when they are nice, they are very nice!

I have the IOR, simply because I liked the glass better when I compared them side by side.  So far it has work well on my 300wsm.  No problems at all... Knock on wood!Wink

Are you looking at SFP or FFP scopes? If the latter, you might also want to consider Premier, S&B or USO (glass about the same as NF). I'd have to say as  NF owner I wasn't that excited about the new NF vs. scopes like the Premier 3-15X50, which is what I ultimately went with. If these new IORs are much more reliable, that's a pretty good option and easier on the wallet.

Premier same as Nightforce, seriously?

Either your NF was freakin awesome or your Premier ain't.  I see a marked difference between Premier and NF.

I would agree that USO and NF are probably on par.

Like with anything else, this depends on which exact models you are looking at.

The 3-18x42 IOR is on its fourth generation now and it looks like the bugs have been worked out.  However, in terms of configuration, the new 3.5-18x50 IOR is probably a closer match to the 3.5-15x50 Nightforce.

I looked at the new 6-24x56 IOR and I really liked the new eyepiece design which it shares with the 3.5-18x50.  However, we will not know how durable it is until there are some more of these in the field.

Between 3-18x42 IOR and 3.5-15x50 Nightforce, if it goes on a heavy kicker, I would lean toward the Nightforce, simply because it has more eyerelief.  Otherwise, I think IOR offers a bit more for the money.

Depends on the uses, but for what I use I would go with the NF

Sorry about the ambiguity...I meant USO compared to NF. Premier is as good as it gets. If you have a clearer sight picture than that it's because your hand is touching what you just shot.
