Nightforce MIL-SPEC ATACR 1-8x24 F1 in “Full Rate Production”

MIL-SPEC ATACR 1-8x24 F1 DAY-SCOPE FOR NEW SQUAD VARIABLE POWER SCOPE

Orofino, ID, U.S. – Late last year, the Nightforce Optics MIL-SPEC ATACR™ 1-8x24 F1 was chosen as the First Focal Plane selection for the Squad-Variable Power Scope component of the family of USSOCOM Miniature Aiming System-Day (MAS-D) Optics. The Squad Variable Power Scope is designed to be integrated into current and future anticipated weapons that the US Special Operations Command employ.

Part of a life cycle replacement program for the SOPMOD Block II optic, the Nightforce MIL-SPEC ATACR 1-8x brings a new capability to the warfighter; a constant variable power scope. Unlike previous systems that were 4x only – or, in later variants, selectable between 1x and 4x – the MIL-SPEC ATACR 1-8x provides constant variable power selection between 1x and 8x.

“The Nightforce MIL-SPEC ATACR 1-8x24 F1 is an over-engineered, military-grade scope built with the military’s extreme endurance in mind,” said Nightforce’s MIL-GOV-LE Business Development Manager, Tod Litt. “It offers numerous mission-critical features including a large eyebox for rapid engagement, a Power Throw Lever for rapid magnification adjustments and the shortest length in their class to maximize rail space. The fully, multi-coated ED glass in the ATACR results in superb light transmission, brilliant image rendering and exceptional color contrast for accuracy in virtually any condition the Warfighter may find themselves in.”

Full Rate Production of the new optic has commenced at the Nightforce factory and will continue over the next few years. After the order is fulfilled, the optic is to augment the venerable M4A1 and similar small arms systems throughout USSOCOM. The integration of a 1-8x optic truly capitalizes on the necessities for today’s dynamic battlespace that can find the operator engaging at longer distances or clearing a building, oftentimes during the same mission.

"It's very humbling and prideful to all of us here at Nightforce Optics to know that we are providing product that see's front-line action in defense of life, limb and freedom for all Americans,” said Litt. “Every member of the Nightforce Optics' team is emotionally vested to ensure we make a product that will perform at its best when the conditions of war are at their worst. We consider the cost of failure in everything we do.”

While this specific optic is produced exclusively for the USSOCOM, the Nightforce Optics ATACR 1-8x24mm F1 (C597) is its commercially available version, allowing the use of the same unsurpassed optical quality and advanced daylight illumination technology that was selected for service.

Does anyone know, whose mount that is?

"[H]umbling and prideful"? And their use of apostrophes is terrible.

That said, it might be an interesting optic, going almost heady-to-head with Vortex's 1-10x24.

On the mount, it looks like an upgraded version of their ultralight unimount, but I could be wrong.

Best guess its probably a 34mm tube and the mount is probably made by Nightforce.

Maybe a new version of NightForce's Ultralite Unimount with a lot of Geissele influence.

That, or they just rebranded Geissele's mount.

It sure looks cool.

I can tell you for certain that it's neither a Geiselle Super Precision mount nor a current Nightforce Unimount, because the contouring and pocketing design on the riser isn't the same as on either. In addition, the screw torque sequence numbers shown in the photo aren't on current iterations of either mount. It may be some new mount or update of the Unimount Nightforce has plans to introduce in the future, but it isn't a current NF product offering.

I think it is a new version of the Nightforce mount.  The clamps are sort of a give away.  If memory serves me right, the S-VPS solicitation was for a scope with mount.

Geisselle mount went in with Vortex Razor, while Nightforce used their own.

I still think it is the Ultramount...

I believe the Ultramount is ready for release to civilians, not sure of timeframe.  Last I heard in the $300.00 PLUS range.

Yep, that's it Dan.

However, it's currently a unicorn - not on their website, and not available for sell to us civilians...at least not yet.

I have a couple of the Geissele Super Precision mounts, and they are equally as nice/ cool looking and currently available.

"$300+", that's a hard pass.

I am interested in this and the Vortex 1-10. One of the 2 will sell at least 2 to me.

Tough decision.

Here's a link to the new Vortex Razor HD Gen. III 1-10x24 scopes.

March is showing a 1-10x24 prototype that is 8.4" long and 17.5 oz weight.

How is it no one could figure out the need/want for a good 1-10X - for 20 years - now suddenly everyone has one?

Rhetorical question.

I will definitely be flipping a few guns to 1-8X or 1-10X options, it is a 2020 resolution.

But - and this is a big but - what matters most to me in a 1-to-whatever is the quality of site picture and the ease of getting it at 1X. If the 1X view isn't fast, the whole thing is a waste of effort. I have become quite comfortable with a good 3-9 and an offset red dot; if a good 1-10X can do it all in a smaller package, awesome; if it can only do 80% of it well, I'll save my money for ammo and range time.

Wait a little before you start changing optics.  There are a couple of interesting options coming up and I want to look at them before I make recommendations.

Generally, the higher the erector ratio, the harder it is to keep a large and forgiving exit pupil on 1x.

Yea, was afraid of that. The Razor 1-6 is amazing at 1X; if the new stuff can't beat it, I'm okay with keeping a red dot and a 3-9.

The guys I have talked to say the new 1-10x24 Razor is as easy to use on 1x as the 1-6x.  I will check.

I always thought the US Optics 1.8-10 was a really great choice and granted its not a 1-10 but its been around for a while. I wouldn't mind having one of the Nightforce  1-8 think I would trust it more long term than the Razor.  I remember seeing Chinese soldiers with digital optics on the rifle and a viewer on their helmet so you could hold the rilfe around the corner or over a barricade and still aim from cover. That stuff is out there but not on the civilian market. Digital cameras killed the best optical film  cameras over night so the future of these high dollar optics is anyone's guess as computers and optics merge into future targeting systems.

I’ve always liked the concept of USO’s 1.8-10x, but saw just enough not great to keep me more in the 2.5-10x camp.

For a 1X, it has to be 1X, and it has to be almost as functional as a red dot. Obviously, it will suffer when having to shoot from unusual positions, but for the everyday stuff, a good 1X conventional scope is good.

I have the razor and love it. While I agree NF has a stellar and well deserved reputation, I don’t feel the vortex is a deficiency, even on a gun that might be used on a 2-way range.

But maybe it’s just me.
