Two totally different beasts! What's your budget? Thermal, be prepared to write the check!

So...thermal starts at about $10k, so forget that. Good gen3 stuff is around $6k so cross that off too.

Your options are gen2 night vision - or digital night vision. If you want daytime usable, digital is your best bet. Be aware that digital NV isn't true NV and you will probably want a good IR light source to go with it. That said, light source and scope can be had for $2500 - and it will work for daytime shooting without risk of destroying the low light usage.

Look at the Pulsar - I think is it ND750 or something like that. I had the 550 for awhile, liked it for what it was, moved away from it for what it was not.

Good true NV is very expensive, the digital will be good for your uses.

Mostly agreed.
One quick note: most gen 3 NV have a warranty of 1-5 years.  After the warranty expires, repairs get expensive.  I am happy to buy some things used, NV is not on that list (traditional NV, that is, maybe a digital. Maybe.)

Thermal and night vision do something well and not the other.  Most of my time is spent in very warm environments, and thermal is all but useless in those conditions.

parts for pvs 14's and other mono's are readily available and cheap  and are a easy fix. other nv clip on's and dedicated kitt can be more off a pain but the mill stuff is very robust and rarely needs attention if looked after
