I currently own a Sightron SIII 10-50 Target Dot Scope. I think it is an awesome scope. I am looking to purchase another scope and want to ensure I make the best decision so I would like some opinions.

I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on Illuminated scopes. My purpose is paper punching. I was thinking that in low light (cloudy, dusk) that having something lit up might give me better contrast.

I wish the Sightron Target Dot came in a style of reticle where the entire crosshair and dot lit up. I find their illuminated model with the MOA hashes to be a bit busy. I also don't like that the lines don't extend to the dot.

The Nightforce NPR2 or CH2 is a serious consideration.

Now for the big question, does the illumination show up in daylight on any of these scopes. For instance, if it was sunny out and I was shooting at a black target, would turning on the illumination give me something easier to see or would it be so faint that it would be a waste of time.

All replies are appreciated.

how useful the illumination system depends on the power your using, which of course is affected the range of the variable, as the ambient light conditions are staying the same for the purposes of your discussion. If your shooting a 8x32 nf at a target at 100 yds at 32x the ambient light is blocked out and the reflected light from the target makes the illumination visable, shooting under the same conditions at 1000 yds, makes the illumination barely if at all visable. On the other hand NF 2.5x10 illumination system is usable in bright sunlight on 2.5x.
