Hello all, Need a little help here. Im in the progress of changing out the optics on a couple of my toys. And I need a few opinions on mounts and bases. [1]Remington 700, 7mm going to use a Millett 6x24x44 scope......[2] Winchester 70, 300wsm going to use a Swift 4.5x14x44 scope.  Which would be better 1 piece or 2 piece base? Tall or med. mounts? Also both will have BC covers on them

Welcome to The OT!

E. Tenn, huh?
Your not a Belt%20Fed "Vol fan" Rocket%20Launcher  R U??
Wink Just kidding.

I have upgraded my stuff, when possible/practical, to Picatinny rails.
Why??
Better mounting options available, canted base option for more elevation, scope positioning, easier to switch out scopes, etc.
That's me and I switch out a lot of scopes on the same rifle and I find rails beneficial.  Make sense?

Everything CT says about the rails is true. I haven't used them on any hunting rigs, yet. I need to get used to the look. They are generally very stout and the rings I think the rail deserves are the Badgers and TPS types. They are also quite large and rugged.

For my hunting guns I like the Talley QD's. They are very strong themselves and I think classy looking on a sporter.

Welcome to the OT and really cool avatar!

Warne also makes some rails too and they are generally less expensive than the TPS or Badgers, but I'm not sure they are the same quality. Never seen one.

Doug's recommendation of the Talley Quick Detach is a good option too.

Depends on what brand of rings you decide on.

If you go with a 2 piece set up, why not just go with Warne Maxima bases?

Those scopes with 44mm objectives and BC caps "should" require mediums, but I would email Warne and get confirmation, if I were you.
