OK, I'm a fairly accomplished service rifle shooter but have until now always shot iron sights. I know nothing at all about optics aside from the spotting scopes I use, and honestly, not much about them.

I recently came into a nice .308 Savage 110 Tactical with the heavy barrel and a Harris bipod and I want to use this rifle to it's potential out to say 500-600M. What are some good scope recommendations as far as power and optical quality? I would prefer target turrets and would appreciate some input on a scope that has those or on which they can be installed as well.

I'd like to stay under $400. If that's not realistic.

This is probably the best scope you can get for that price, if you are okay with a fixed power.

OK. Thanks. How's that going to work for me at lesser ranges, say 200-300M?

Depending on what you are shooting it will be fine. Target work will be great. As long as you don't have fast moving targets, or severe low light situations, or very close up shots, it will work great.

For a daylight target gun you could even go with the 16x version but if you intend to hunt it the 10x version is eaven a bit too much power and a 6x42 or a variable that would go down to at least 6x would be a better hunting choice. Anything over 100 yds you will be ok but 10 x is a bit much under 100 yds. I have a couple of the Super Snipers and I like them a lot.  We expect to see a 3-9 variable version out this year also, but its been a long time in the works.
