New member...great site!  I just purchased a Remington 700 Mountain Rifle.  It has a Bushnell Banner 4x32 mounted on it.  I sighted it in and it works well; however, I want something in a 2.5-7 or a fixed 6.  Preferably the 6.  I also want to keep the profile low.  The Leupold 2.5-7x33 and the 6x36 have both caught my eye.  Does anybody else make scopes with a lower profile and a matte black finish?  Thanks for any information.

Budget? Many companies make compact scopes. It just depends on what you want to spend.

..................What can you do with a fixed scope that a good variable can`t do??.....Nothing!............If I were you, dump the fixed power notion! A fixed power reduces your versatility, especially for shorter range hunting shots, as your FOV is reduced, the time it takes you to acquire the target is increased, while the target is more difficult to obtain as well. You want a variable that will adapt to do just about anything for all hunting ranges and for your caliber!!................To keep your profile low there is the Burris FF2 2x7x35 @ $175,,,,,,,,,,,,Bushnell Elite 3200 2x7x32 @ $175,,,,,,,,,,,,,Leupold VX2 2x7x33 @ $299,,,,,,,,,,,,Leupold 3x9x33 Ultralite @ $329,,,,,,,,,,,,Leupold VX3 2.5x8x36 @ $399,,,,,,,,,,Nikon Monarch (discontinued) 2x7x32 @ $189 (GOOD PRICE),,,,,,,,,,,,,Weaver Classic V7 2.5x7x32 @ $149,,,,,,,,,,,Weaver Classic V9 3x9x38 @ $149,,,,,,,,,,,,,Zeiss Conquest 2.5x8x32 or 36 @ $400+++? Don`t remember exactly!!..........................These are all matte finished, smaller than a 40mm objective and depending on your budget and taste, these should pretty well cover it...................

Well said Squeeze, was trying to keep it short, until I got a budget.

Thanks guys...great info.  Going with the Leupold 2.5-7 x 33 or the 3x9 Ultralight.  Budget is not a problem.

i would advise against leupold for a hunting rifle, there are better optics out there for a lower price.  Consider a Bushnell elite 4200 in a 3-9x40, better optics for @250.  If your budget is not a problem like you say, then consider going for some euro glass.

.........................Yeah! If you can find one!!...............SWFA is sold out @ the $459 price and had there not been an inventory sna-foo on their computers, after I ordered mine, I`d have one now!...........Instead, I had to settle for just a lowly 1.5-5x20 VX3 #4 for my 375!!
