Hi folks. New to the sight here.  I am looking to buy my first decent quality scope.  My question is this.  On the El Cheapo scopes that I have owned in the past, the adjustable objective seems to act as a focus for the image seen through the scope.  I thought this was designed to correct for parallax error only.  Why does it act as a focus?   Also, why don't rifle scopes have a true focus like a telescope might?  Or does the A/O act as more of a focus than I origianlly thought?   Like I said.  I am a optics idiot..  I tried the search feature and read a lot of good material but I only added to my confusion.  Anybody want to put me on the right path?

Thanks and glad I found the forum.

The AO is the focus or parallax adjustment.

If your scope has a "quick focus" or an eye piece focus, this brings your reticle ONLY into focus.

If your scope doesn't have an AO or side focus, it's parallax is preset @ the factory.

I hope that and the thread above helped you out.

Welcome to OT!!

Glad your here.......

If at first you don't secede...try..try again.

Thanks Cheaptrick.  Glad to be here and thanks for the reply.  I had read that thread but I guess I didn't realize that the adjustable objective worked to correct the parallax error and focus the sight picture.  I guess they are one in the same then?
