Howdy everybody.  I have spent the last couple of days reading a lot of the posts.

I gained a lot of good knowledge so I decided to join Big Grin.  I bought a Savage 110FP in .270Win for Xmas.  It was a package deal from Wally World for $337 with a Simmons Blazer 3-9X40 already mounted (couldn't beat the price).  3 days and about 50 rounds later I realized that the Simmons just wasn't up to task / kick of the lightweight .270 Win long action in a benchrest.  Everything kept moving around and I never successfully got it sighted in.

Thus started my quest for enlightenment Wink so to speak.  After much reading, here and several other places I started my search for the best bang for my buck.  I can hear Squeezer groaning already Clown.  1st cudos to Chris and gang from SWFA for ratings chart of the bigger name scopes.  After balancing the Checkbook I reluctantly set my sights on either Burris Singature Select, Bushnell Elite 3200 or if luck a Monarch all in 3-9X40 or there-abouts.  I was lusting after a Conquest but the numbers just didn't work.

Man, can you say "price fixing"?  It seems that everywhere I looked all the prices where VERY  SIMILAR.  That is until I ran across what I think is a GREAT DEAL!

ShockedIs anybody else interested in a Bushnell Elite 4200 2.5-10X40 Model 422104M for UNDER $300?????Shocked  Oh I forgot to add.... With Free Shipping!Yippee

Everywhere else I looked, wanted $400 for one, except SWFA who was about $40 less.  Hell, most places I checked wanted $300 for a 3200 3-9X40 or the 4200 version of 3-9X40 (older 3200 internals if I did my reading right).

SO, this is a Bucky SANITY Bucky check Loco.

Please correct me if I am wrong or confirm that I have found a Great Deal!
I'll even share the website info with everybody...AFTER I  buy mine!

SO as Johnny Five would say....  I Need Input!!!!

Thanks in advance

SWFA, the sites sponcer has 110% price guarantee.

I know somebody may run some sort of weekly special.  After working retail, I can tell you I would be VERY wary of anybody selling cheaper than here.

To all members and SWFA staff,

Well,  leave it to me to come out of the gate with my boot in my mouth on my very first post.  Go figure.

I have only been reading / researching Optics since Xmas after getting a 270 Win.  Before that all my shootin has been open sights.

I appologize for the pricing information foopaw.  I saw that SWFA is this site's sponsor but did not realize the extent to which they owned & controlled it.  Either that or group loyalty the likes the Queen hasn't seen a couple hundred years!

I joined because I was impressed with both the members knowledge, and willingness to share it as well as the great inputs from SWFA folks.  After looking over the posts again, I realized that indeed; except for SWFA prices only ballpark prices are mentioned.

I again apologize, I thought I was doing members a favor and was excited to do so.

The source of the price was a reputable 35+ years old Family Owned Sporting Goods Super Center.  All their other prices were pretty much in-line (2-10% lower) than all others sites across all models I reviewed.
I actually think the item was mis-listed because it is only about $20 more than the 3-9X40 version of the 4200 they had listed.
I would have tried to take advantage of SWFA's 110% matching, but not knowing the mark-up, I was concerned that this would have forced SWFA to sell it at a loss to do so.  So I had decided to protect my new interests and SWFA's and buy direct.

If SWFA wants the sale I will be happy to give it to them, it would save me enough to almost pay for some flip-up covers.  Since I think it is below cost they will need to contact me though...its their call.

I received several PMs, some asking for the website, most admonishing me for posting competitve pricing specifics.

To all, I will only release that info to SWFA personnel if they request it.

I again apologize, I think competition is a GOOD thing, it keeps the pricing GODS honest.
This experience strengthens my preception that there is industry wide price fixing in hunting optics.

Happy New Year and Have a nice day!

Competition is a good thing but this site is even better.
My advice for you would be to call SWFA direct and talk with them about your needs. From everything I've read on this site . they sell way cheaper then what they have listed on the site. Many posters have posted to the fact here.

Thanks for the input and advice PaPa.  I am feeling a little whipped right now.  All the PMs have been courteous but pretty terse.  If I don't get band for this maybe I'll get a chance to find that out for myself.  Right now I feel like I sat on a fire ant nest.

My intentions really were good.  Like they say...no good deed goes unpunished.

you wont get banned for a one time rookie move bud, trust me your not the first and not the last, usually after a first time of somebody doing that we cure them quickly and they dont do it again, we get there attention and make a point then we back off.

and yes, do tell why the .270win?

Pyro,
You guys definitely did that.  You got my atttention then Chris cauterized me with his edit of your one liner while I was mulling it over LOL.  Anyway... thanks Chris, my hems needed  it.

To answer the .270Win question while obtusely ignoring your alter ego, my Dad had an absolutely BEAU-tiful hi-gloss A-bolt with burled stock in 270 Win while I was growing up.  SOB sold it instead of giving to me.  I never even got to shoot it.  So I always wanted a .270Win.

Now that that is said, I am an american, a 7th generation Floridian in fact.   I learned to count using ASE not the Metric system.  I could be wrong but I far as I am concerned...we invented the .270 round so thats how I have always refered to it.
Calling it a 6.8mm Winchester just sounds as wrong as me saying I have an 0.315CAL Mauser!

So what's your story Mr. Anti .270?  you a furiner er somin?  Share with me what you therapist has to say.

it would take to long, i like the .280 for similar reasons that you like the .270 except my story is about my grand father, when i was about 8yrs old he was just starting to teach me how to reload, i asked him one day if he were to go buy a new rifle for deer and elk hunting what would it be, he stopped what he was doing looked at me and said well, i suppose the .280remington, i said why? he said well you get all the performance of a 30-06 with out the recoil and you get more bullet choices than you would with the .270. so i always had it in my head to buy a .280, and i use 6.8 because  i can, i prefer 6.5mm and 7mm for ballistic reasons.
you sure your mauser isnt a .318?? i know some of the earlier ones were not .323 diam

+1 on that lucytuma.  Even Mr. Anti .270 is a good guy!  Don't get into a .270 vs .280 debate, just own BOTH of them!Yippee

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Don't worry, I am a little thicker skinned than that.  I was just caught off guard by the swift and unexpected responses.  I  turned 50 this year and have noticed lately that is it the personalities that kept me from falling asleep.

I am actually quite impressed with the display of unity amd loyalty!  God save the ?Queen?

(Please tell me it isn't Chris!)

I'll be stickin around to enjoy the banter and learn a thing or two
