Hi guys, i've checked out a few forums in the past couple weeks and have found this one to be themost helpful.  I am looking for a scope for my A-Bolt medallion II in a 300 WSM.  Ill be hunting mostly deer and bear with it for now.  Shots will range anywhere from 50-300 or so yards.  I am looking for a 3x9, 4x12, or soemthing in that range with atleast a 40mm objective.  Also, i am a college student with a tight budget and would like the best all around quality for under $250.  Thank you.

The bushnell would be out of my price range, but not the Nikon.  Is it really a "rebadged" Monarch?  Also, what about the Leupold Rifleman, or VX-1?

I just bought a team primos...SWFA has new ones for $199 and HAD some on the sample list for $180.  There are threads on here about how it relates to a monarch....I don't own a monarch (so you read and decide)...but I think it's better than a pro-staff or buckmaster.  Pass on the low end Leupolds.  I 'love me some VXIIIs' but If all you got is $250...get the primos.  You'll get better glass and a BDC reticle, which is handy, but doesn't get in the way if you don't want to use it.

What is your major?  I hope it's liberal arts since you're on a rifle scope forum and not studying.Wink

The Primos will outperform either of the Luepys. The Team Primos is last years model, and being pretty much clearanced out. I believe it is a rebadged Monarch UCC. You just have to be able to live with the BDC system. I have one and am pretty happy with it.

The team primos nikon is the best choice under $250.  Spend some time reading the others post in reference to primos, I think you'll have a hard time finding a better scope for the money.  I hope you enjoy this informative site.

Thank you guys for the kind welcome.  As for the major, im in engineering. Trust me, i study a ton and its never enough.  Free time does not come easy while trying to balance that with baseball.
As for the scopes, can i get a Team Primos or equivelant in black gloss?

As far as I know it only comes in matte finish.   Matte finish = A self confident hunter who has many girlfriends.

garrett,

The Bushnell Elite 4200 3-9x40 is an awesome scope and comes with a free rain jacket when you send in the rebate form. I recommended it to one of my buddies for his daughter and he thougt it blew his Leupold 2.5-10 VX III out of the water. He said it provided a brighter view. Also, on the day we were hunting it was raining pretty hard and he could not believe the advantage the Rainguard coating provided the Bushnell. Check out the following link at SWFA:

Also, remember that if you find it cheaper anywhere else, SWFA has a price matching policy (read it on their web site) with a 110% guarantee on the difference.

They are good folks to deal with, Best of luck in school and in your scope selection.
