I recently bought a Weaver Tactical 4-20x50 mil/mil scope and I am quite happy with it - actually very, very happy with it.  This was an upgrade for me from a Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16x42 mil/moa.  The only issue with it is that it didn't come with a sunshade.  Looking to buy a sunshade I used a little Google-Fu and ended up on the Weaver webpage for my scope and I noticed at the bottom of the model table is a potential gem.  Looks like a 6-30x56 scope that has an illuminated improved mil-dot reticle, mil knobs, and maybe a zero stop ("SmartZero"?).  This thing sounds great but I can't find any information on this scope anywhere.

Anyone have any info?

3.  Do not advertise other retailers selling the same or similar products as SWFA, this includes posting links to other retailers for products sold by SWFA.  SWFA does not provide this forum as a vehicle to redirect customers to our competition.

Just spoke with someone at Weaver who indicated that this is a brand new model, not released yet.  He said it should be out in about a month.  He did note that it is a 34mm tube and did confirm it has a zero stop.

Seems like Weaver is serious about going to the higher end of scope features with their Tactical line.

The Weaver Tactical 4-20x50 mil/mil just went on my Rem700 5R .308 this past weekend.  I was quite impressed with this scope compared the Bushnell Elite 6500 that it replaced - very clear glass, the knobs feel/work great, and way the knobs reset zero simply couldn't be easier.  Changing from moa to mil knobs means I will need to rework all of my dope tables, but it is just another excuse to go to the range. Big Smile
I think the new 6-30x56 is probably a bit too much for this .308 platform, especially at 2.5lbs.  However, it could be very interesting on a .338 build I am considering.

I picked the Weaver Tactical you have, which mounted on my LR-308.  Good scope and I like the turrets.  The glass is not quite as good as the SWFA SS 3-15x42 at similar magnification, but difference is subtle.  Good scope regardless.

What was your impression of Bushnell?  Particularly interested in glass quality compared to the Weaver.

@Kickboxer - I did not post a link to a competitors site.  The link I posted was for the product page on Weaver's (the manufacturer of the scope) site.  Did you even look at where the link went before you removed it?

I wish I new they were coming out with a new scope. I would have waited to see it before I bought the Monarch3 5-20x44 it is a 1 inch tube. What will it cost?

The Bushnell was an Elite 6500, made in Japan.  The glass seemed pretty good to me, but then again I have never looked through the really high-end (S&B, Swaro, Kahles, etc) stuff either.  In comparison the Weaver Tactical is an obvious step up from the Elite 6500.  I haven't been able to take this out to the long range yet, but at my local club this weekend I was hitting 1/2" square target centers at 225yds and .308 holes were very clear. The clarity, brightness, and resolution of the Weaver is definitely better than the Bushnell.  In fact I was picking up hit locations before my son could call them out and he was on a 75x Vortex spotting scope.  For me this scope was a nice upgrade for my rifle.

@sonney - I think the new (not yet available) Weaver is a different level of scope than the Monarch3 you purchased.  It looks like they are trying to go high end with this one.  From what I have read and what they told me it looks like it will have:

  • 6-30x magnification
  • 34mm tube - this is much larger than the 1" Monarch you mentioned
  • Illumination and improved mil-dot reticle
  • An elevation knob zero stop ("SmartZero")
  • The scope itself is a bruiser at 2.5lbs

Retail on the new one is almost $2100, but I purchased my 4-20x50 for about 40% off list, so maybe this one will comes in around $1200-1300?  That is still pricey but for what it may be able to do it would be a bargain against competitors similar products.

Appreciate the comments on the 6500.  I've been eyeing one but I'll see if I can find one first to compare.  Very familiar with the Weaver Tactical
