I just ran across what seems to be a pretty good deal on a new Weaver Classic Extreme 2.5-10x50 rifle scope with 30mm tube and illuminated German #4 reticle.  I have the opportunity to inspect it and if I choose to send it back I can of course get a refund minus shipping costs.   I also know that Weaver has been bought by another company and that maybe the quality of their rifle scopes in particular the quality of the glass in general has diminished since the buy out.

Does anyone have any experience with newer Weaver scopes?  Are they reliable?  What about the quality of the glass.  An illuminated reticle doesn't do a hunter much good if the sight picture is dim to start with.  Any input is appreciated.

The last Weaver that I owned was k10 ( steel tube) it was at the time the best tracking scope I had ever owned. I would have probably bought another but there just wasn't a local dealer .

I guess we will have to wait for a report on the scope.  It came today and although it looked very similar to my Bushnell 6500 it also had a spintered reticle so I had to ship it back for a replacement.
