A friend of mine was on the phone with Leupold the other day.  He asked about the new VX3(or whatever they'll call it).  He was told it will have a fast focus eye-piece, improved lens coatings, and NO side focus.  Why would you totally redesign and not add side focus?Loco

Not sure if I would believe that. Seems like side focus is the most popular versions of scopes. I cant imagine they would drop sf on the target models(at least I hope not)

Ditto

Anything over x14 usually has it or an AO but not always.

Cost???

Customer service????  Sounds like a hot line nightmare with all the knob turners.  Then the more stuff that turns, the more stuff to go wrong.  You are trying to get caught up with Zeiss on price verse quality.

I believe my friend was asking about 1" models which never have had side focus.  I should have clarified that.  The way I understood it was.....the new VX3's will not be upgraded to side focus on models that now have AO's.

Isn't that the old saying.....wish in one hand, VX3 in the other?

What "improved lens coatings"?  Pretty much all the same by the majors and I am not aware of any significant advancements in coatings technology.  I don't buy it.

It seems SF scopes are harder to make right. Have noticed that it's easier to focus using AO than SF specially when used in high magnification scopes. I know there is an article here somewhere explaining the advantages of a AO over an SF.
