had an issue with my Sako 85 270 last week (more later)
I had sold my super accurate Tikka 308 and wanted to go back to a 308 after a lot of thought/research decided to go with a 700 LTR with the 20" barrel in my search for one locally my FFL guy told me may be selling his for a 260 had a jewell trigger and about 400 rounds through it, proper barrel breakin, etc.. told me I could pick it up and shoot it over the weekend and pay him this week if I liked it uh. "OK"! only base/ring combo I could come up with on Friday was the Warne 2 piece and Warne 1" med rings, perfect fit for my Kahles CL3-10x50 MZ, just a few mm of clearance between the scope and barrel worked up a few loads and shot them came up with a good load right away.. man, I love 308s for that reason my Sako 85 270 finnlight seemed hyper finicky anyways.. here's a pic of a 5 round group I shot yesterday think it will work Edited by ccoker - October/20/2009 at 13:44 |

I've sold one Tikka, and have regretted it since the day I did it (though I replaced it with a GAP, so it isn't a consuming regret.)

You made a good choice. Other than a little more copper fouling than I'd like, I love my LTR. It's a great hunting rifle. Not so light that you feel heavy recoil (it's a .308 anyway) but light and compact enough to easily carry through thick cover all day. If I'm wearing a pack, I'll often just cradle the rifle under my arm. It balances nicely on the hip pad and I just hold it in place by hanging onto the Pod-Loc handle.
Every rifle is different, but another load you might try (but maybe go 44.5 then 45 first) is 45.5 Varget, BR primer, Lapua brass and 165 gr. Accubonds. That shoots 1" groups @ 200 yards and goes 2650fps with no pressure signs...pretty good for the short barrel. |

She's a keeper and probably a good deal to boot.

I am using 44.5
my previous pet load with the Tikka was 45.5 thanks for the recommendation on the load and the FPS I may try a Hornady 150 SST, seen lots of people liking that bullet |
