with regards to the "newer" design, not the SLC NEU, some are labeled HD some not, are they the same bino/glass?

The newer SLC is has all green armoring, and the one it replaced was the SLC HD, which had green and black armoring.  The optics are identical.  Both are optically superior to the SLCneu.

JGR is correct, I believe the only differences were the armoring and some mechanical features.  New model (all green) has a lesser focus mechanism, which to my knowledge only allowed the binocular to be focused down to 10.5 feet instead of around 6 feet in the old model (green and black armoring).

apparently this was enough to cut $400 off the price tag to offer a sub 2K bino into the market to compete with the likes of Vortex and those other binos in the 12-1500 range.
