Our PD needed another rifle but with the budget so tight Chief gave me a cap of $1000. I laughed at 1st, but then got to work.
I picked up a 700sps Tactical .308 at a local shop for $500. Ordered a Super Sniper 10X42 from SWFA for $300. Leupold PRW rings & bases from SWFA at $75. Harris BiPod from SWFA at $70.

Once I put it all together, took it to the range and this is what I got.

HOLY SMOKES!! This if just SICK !!
I almost pee'd my pants.
This coming from a $945 set up outta the box

Thanks SWFA !!

Would you mind posting a picture of yourself with the rifle?  I would love to use it and the story on SuperSniper.com.

Very, very nice pics.  PM me your last name and zip (so I can find you in our system) I would like to send you some goodies for taking the time to share such a good story and pictures.  Also include the name of your Chief and the department's address, I would like to tell him that what you built would not be able to be duplicated with a $5k budget. Wink

Thats not me in the pictures. I'm FAR too hideous to post my mug for public viewing. The guy in the pics is a very good friend of mine who works with me.  He was issued the rifle once I got it together.

Ya thats a Hogue overmolded stock on there. It is a complete factory off the shelf, unaltered Rem 700 SPS Tactical .308.

Good, since it wasn't you go smack him in the head for me and tell him next time to make sure he gets that finger off the trigger.  Now go put some paint on that smoke pole, or give it pole to dance on cause it's naked.

I have a Remington 700 in 308 cal on the way. (VSF in left hand). I really hope my rifle can do the same! Good shooting and nice rig!!
And don't smack the guy to hard, he may twiddle with the scope dials out of revenge.
