Welcome to OT first of all.
Second, give us an idea of what kind of guns you want to get optics for and the uses/distances they will normally have.

in terms of quality, the vortex vipers, nikon monarchs and leupold vx-3's are all very similar.

i think the best bang for the buck right now is the viper 2-7x32's that are on closeout here and elsewhere.... unless you're planning on shooting pretty far, that's more than enough mag, and the scopes are solid.

I'd put a 2-7 Vortex Viper on the Mini 14 as it should have come with one inch rings.

Since ou are looking for hunting scopes I would suggest the following for your consideration:

Vortex Viper on close out     $149

Bushnell 4200 3-9x40 on close out   $199

Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40    $399

Now reading your post closer I see you are in Canada so that may have some bearing on what is avaliable to you and the pricing may be much different than we are use to here in the US. So to answer your question most of the major companies Leupold , Nikon, Burris, Vortex, Sightron or Zeiss make very good competetive scopes at various price points that all will serve any hunter well and should give you years of service. I suggest that you look at the various scopes of these brands that are avaliable to you, shop the deals avaliable and pick one that you like and provides you with the best value for the $$. A good example of what I'm saying is I might like the Zeiss above a bit better but for me the Bushnell 4200 at $200 less is what I would buy because I don't like the Zeiss that much more. However this decision is based on the current circumstane that the Bushnell is currently avaliable at a close out price, a year ago I might have decided otherwise. In the end you have to make the decision based on your circumstance and likes.

your exactly right, i decided to go with the leopold vx-3/ 3.5x10x40 for my bigger guns and the 2x7x32 viper for my 223..the leopold's just made sense, the service depot is 70 miles from my house, it a great scope and i got it for $590 buck(average price in alberta 700-800$)..as for the viper the cost alone is a no brainer...my only issue with the vortex was it was relatively unknown to me, but from the opinions of the fine people on this site i have no problem to buy one now...thanks 4 the heads up on the 40% discount and to all you help..much appreciated..
