First thanks for any help offered.  I just got lucky and am going on a Whitetail trip of a lifetime.  That being the case I need a new scope for my Remington 7mm.  As a chance to get any scope I want do to a favor owed by someone in the business I'd like some input from any of you wish way to go on this.  He even carries Swarokski Scopes and as I can get one close to cost I am thinking long and hard as that's still a lot of money.  If you have a suggestion please forward it and I will appreciate the info.  Scope dimensions would be appreciate to.  I should say I do not believe do to terrain that a hunt in a 250 yards shot will ever happen including this trip.

Splinters -

Not sure exactly what your budget is, but Swarovski, Kahles and Zeiss are all truly excellent, as previously indicated.  Throw in Schmidt & Bender as well (many would argue they are the best of the bunch).  If you want to spend a little less money (<$1,000) than the high end of these makes, I'd recommend a Zeiss Conquest.  It's a hell of a lot of scope for $500 or so.

Given your statement that you'll never shoot over 250 yards, I would strongly encourage you to think about a 6x fixed Kahles.  For the $$$, a fixed power will be better optically than a variable, with less moving parts, less weight, more compact, etc.  6x is plenty of power out to 200+ yards as well.

If you do decide to go variable for the added versatility, I suggest you stay at a 42mm objective lens or less.   Anything bigger is simply unnecessary and the scope could very likely rest too high on your gun, making finding the target quickly more difficult and rather uncomfortable.  3-9x is the standard zoom range and will suit 95%+ of the hunting situations you are likely to encounter.

If you are willing to spend the $$$, I'd encourage you to look through a 3-12x42 Schmidt and Bender, a 1.7-10x42 Swarovski Z6, and a 2.5-10x42 Zeiss Victory Diavari.  All are approximately $1,600 or so but they are the best scopes in the world.

Good luck.  We all should be so fortunate!  Let us know what you decide to get.
