I am looking to get a new scope for my .270. I hunt mostly whitetail and black bear. i hunt thick woods food plots and fields so about 15 yards to 300 yards. It needs to be good in low light. I have been looking at leupold vx-6 2-12x42 or the Zeiss Victory HT 2.5-10x50. should i get a illuminated recticle or non and which is better?

The Zeiss is a better scope all around, for me.  Better glass, better internals.  I like illuminated reticles in some scopes.  The Zeiss IR is not "overpowering", in other words the illumination is actually useful, and it can decrease your acquisition time for quicker accurately placed shots in low light.  However, I have a Zeiss Victory Diavari 2.5-10x42 without illumination and for legal hunting hours for most game, IR is not needed.  At least I've never had a need.  There are times when it might be advantageous, but I've never had a situation where I could not make "the shot" due to lack of illumination.  Personal preference would be the key...
