I have a Sako grey wolf 7mm. I need a new scope for it. I have $1000.00 for a new scope. I want a scope for late afternoon hunting. I will have shots up to 300 yards. What scopes would you choose from?Big Smile

From what you've told us so far, we could all throw-out the usual suspects of Monarch, Conquest, 4200, VX3, etc., and you'd have a great scope.

Just to be throrough, however, could you tell us a bit more?

*  Strictly hunting, or more than a little range work, too?
*  If 300 yards is the longest shot, what is the shortest?
*  Stand hunting, drives, spot-&-stalk?
*  Snap shooting, or plenty o' time to set up?
*  What kind of ground are you hunting - woods, fields, pastures, thickets?
*  Is rifle weight a large or small consideration?
*  Are you concerned about mounting height, or type of mounts?
*  Fair weather, or foul?
*  Glossy, or matte?
*  What scope are you replacing?  What do you like about it?  What do you hate?

Get ready to be really happy, 'cause $1,000 will get you an incredible scope!

If I had $1,000, I would probably get the Swarovski American.

I'm also fond of the Trijicon Accu-Points and Zeiss Conquest line.

In that case, you could get into the 50mm objective IORs, Meoptas, Zeiss Conquests, Burris Black Diamond / Euro Diamond, VX3, etc.  Others will have to guide you in these waters, as the only scopes in that list through which I've looked are the Conquests and VXIII's, and those were in the 40mm flavor, not the 50mm.

Of course, your particular eyes may not see any difference between a $400 scope and a $1,000 scope.  If that's the case, spend the difference on more ammo and more hunts!  I always recommend a hunter check out scopes in person, to see what their own eyes are telling them.  If it turns out that your eyes really do match your budget, then the folks in the know here can point out the differences between the offerings at that price point.
