I currently have a Zeiss Conquest MC 3-9x40 with Z-Plex mounted on my 16"-AR15. Quite satisfied with it.
I need a new scope to go with my planned AR15-SPR with 18" barrel. My selection is based on a budget of up to $800 and plus BDC guides on the reticle. I don't like extended eye-relief of Leupold VX-III. I'm looking at these scopes : 1 - Zeiss Conquest MC 3-9x40 Rapid Z-600 reticle $574.95 ** this is similar to what I have, except for the ballistic reticle 2 - Accupoint TR202 3-9x40 with Mil-Dot Crosshari w/ Amber Dot $678.95 3 - Zeiss Conquest MC 3.5-10x44 with Rapid Z-600 reticle $774.95 > Did Zeiss increased their price recently? > Any glass-to-glass experiences on those above? What are my other options? Did I miss something? > Would it really matter going from -9x to -10x? My current shooting distance is between 25 -to- 250 yards (paper targets). Hopefully, with the SPR, I can go silhouette targets up to 600 yards. |

It really depends on whether or not you place any value on the Accupoint's illuminated reticle. If that's not a big deal to you, or if you place a premium on the Rapid Z 600, then I would go with the 3-9X Conquest because of the lower price. The 3.5-10X44 will give you a tad better low light performance at higher power than both 3-9X40's, but the Accupoint's highly visible reticle somewhat makes up for the smaller objective's lower light transmission. Optically, the Conquests and Accupoint are very close in my opinion. I happen to really like the Accupoint lit reticle system and think it is a feature worth paying extra for. IMO, the decision really boils down to a choice between which reticle you like better and which CS and warranty you trust more because I don't think you'll find one is a clear winner over the other optically. I can't comment on which is superior mechanically, as I've not had either break on me. Both are good scopes.

I have several Monarchs, a buckmaster, a Weaver Classic Extreme 2.5-10X50 illuminated reticle and a Trijicon Accupoint 3-9X40 amber triangle. The Trijicon is my go to scope come hunting season. The glass is on par if not better than the Monarchs and the reticle is perfect for hunting in low light conditions and quick target acquisition. I have harvested deer with it from 20 to 300 yards. I just received the Weaver and the glass appears to be superior to the Monarch, but I have not shot with it yet. The illuminated reticle appears that it would be great for hunting, but I will have to wait until next season to give it a try. The Weavers can be found for half the price of the Trijicon. As far as customer service goes, I purchased my Trijicon used from a coworker several years ago and last year I discovered a small crack on the plastic that is underneath the cover that allows light to the tritium insert. I called Trijicon and explained to them that I purchased it used and did not have any paperwork for it. Trijicon told me to send it in and tow weeks later it was repaired and shipped back to me for free with no questions asked. That eliminated any doubt I had about purchasing Trijicon products. |

I have a conquest 3x9x40 and a Trijicon TR20 3x9x40. I lean alittle more toward the Trijicon IMHO.....

Here is an added twist to my dilemma. A friend told me not to count Leupold out with its new VX3.
*New* Leupold 3.5-10x40 VX-3 with Boone & Crockett reticle $579.95 My main objection with Leupold is their extended eye relief at 4.4 - 3.5; as I might have to buy an SPR-E mount. Any VX-3 vs Zeiss glass comparison? |

You know there's one of those in a gloss finish.........brand new on the samplelist for $509 ! 3.5-10x40 BC reticule . Don't know how it stacks up to a Conquest........but I can't see it being a "huge" difference !
Matter of fact there is a 4.5-14x40 bc long range 30mm tube , side focus for $659 that I think would be a hell of a scope ! And a plex 1" tube with a AO instead of a side focus for like $549 ! All on the samplelist ........all new !! I am trying to get my buddy to pickup one before they all get gone !!
