Hello everyone I'm new here and have a question I have a savage 12 BTVS chambered in .223 and have a nikon buckmaster 6-18x40 mounted to it at 100 yrds i'm 1.5 inch high and perfectially centered side to side, now here is where it gets interesting at 200 yrds it's shooting 2 inches to the right and height wise almost perfect my grouping isn't that good but i'll work on that later and all shots were on a bench rest, how critical is the parallax adjustment because It's new to me and i think i forgot to change it, plus i noticed a mirage of heat rising from the barrel with the sunshade on.

thanks

they are made of aluminum by b-square and the scope is held by four screws on each ring.

Hi,

Let me tell you of a trick I learned setting up my scopes for long range shooting.  I put my rifle in my shooting rest.  I find a rigid steel ruler and a small level.  I hold the ruler flat on top of the scope bases.  I slide enough of the ruler beyond the bases so I can put the level on it.  Next, I level the rifle, or at least the bases so I have a point of reference.  Next I put the level on top of the scope turret and level the scope to the rifle.  On most good scopes,  this works pretty well.  I don't have to much trouble with windage with my scopes at the longer ranges using this method.

Hope this helps,  Catch you later,

The Big Dog

I figured out the problem, or at least I think I found the problem havn't tried it at the range yet, the scope x-hairs were not perfectially straight up and down, the scope had to be turned counter clockwise to straighten them so when when i adjusted for elevation it was actually adjusting the windage to the right just enough to make it shoot to the right at 200yrds. At least this is my theory. I checked all my scope mounted rifles and I had to turn the scope counter clockwise to straighten them. this was not a problem before because the range I used to shoot at only had 50 and 100yrds the new town i live in their range goes to 300 yrds
