Have never shot this caliber, loking to shoot p dogs or otes or paper.
Thinking maybe vortex viper 6.5-20 is to great magnification.
Looking at Vortex Viper 6.5-20, or 4-12x40
or weaver buck commander 4-16x42,  it seems 4x16 makes sense to  me if a close shot should
happen. All my deer rifles are leo's 3-9, would like to stay under $400.

I run a Ruger in .22-250.  I have a 6-24x50 on it.  It is fine for p-dogs but max mag is usually 12 to 14x due to mirage.  The 4-16 would be a great scope.  Good magnification range as it gets you a good high end but the low end is low enough that you can pick up a yote close.  Welcome to OT.

I have used a burris ff2 4.5-14x42 mounted on 17 hmr and AR-15 for hunting coyotes at night.  I think its a very good scope for the money.  I have had it for over 5 years and have never had a problem with it.

did you end up getting the Burris?

I was in the same decision process for almost a year and since my 22-250 is mainly for Dogs I bought a Leupold VX3 6.5-20 long range with the varmint hunters reticle
