you won't be able to tell a difference between a Kahles C 3-12X56 and a Zeiss Victory 3-12X56.  Chose one.  Kahles is less expensive (can anyone explain why b/c I can't?).

nothing wrong with a monarch, but Kahles and Zeiss are in a completely different world.

I haven't used a 56mm scope yet but I can vouch for the Z6 2-12x50. It's probably the best optically out there but it's more expensive than most. If you have budget constraints Kahles may be the better choice. The Z6 is great for low light hunting but they don't come in 56mm like some of the Kahles models. Personally, I like the everything about the Z6, including it's 30mm tube and prefer the 2nd focal plane for long shots on deer where we tend to hunt.  In 2008, Z6 will be available in more reticle choices and who knows, maybe down the road a 56mm.

I was comparing the new monarch directly/ sidexside against a luepold vXL 56mm. Clarity was undistinguable even at 5min before dark.

That is because the Leupold VX-L and VX-7 are ridiculously overpriced.

When you get near the top, zeiss - swaro - and kahles are going to be the choices of merit.

4-16x50 Schmidt and Bender PH if you don't mind the weight. IMO 56 mm is not needed for legal shooting hours in the USA. Once you go to S&B you'll never look back, if in doubt as ask a Marine or the Black ops guys with the 10X S&Bs on the Barrett 50s. IF low light is an issue, then I'd pick the Tijicon. No batteries and visible in the barn with the door closed on a moonless night.

I like IOR very good glass, and costs a wee bit less, and without the sacrifice of very good quality. Look into it.

It sounds like an awesome setup for snipers but for hunting, coming in at 27oz., you've justed added an extra half pound or more  onto the guy's rifle unless weight isn't an issue. If not, I think the S&B 4-16x50 costs a little more than a Z6 and even more than the Kahles but it's definitely worth looking into.

The Schmidt & Bender scopes sure sound good, and there on line catalog reads well. But I haven't seen a S&B scope on any retail store, so you could look through the glass for yourself. Anybody know of a retailer in N.W. Georgia that stocks these?
