I like the Zeiss 2.5 x 8 but its a bit heavy at 14.75 ounces. I had an older Leupold 2.5 x 8 VariXIII. Any suggestions regards a scope for a Kimber Classic select in the roberts?

You can see throught the Zeiss.  I'd get a 4a reticle.  It's not like it is a pound lighter.

I just purchased one of those Zeiss scopes - damn nice scope for the money, I love Zeiss glass.  I think it is one of the most "perfect" scopes in terms of magnification range and clarity for most shooting.

Kahles CL 2-7x36 if you can find one, or Swaro 3-9x36 american.  A fine rifle like the kimber deserves nice optics.

For me anyway, the .257 Roberts is a 250 yard deer/antelope rifle.  Maybe a little further  with 100 grain bullets handloaded at 3000fps.  Even the Zeiss Conquest, current sale scope (1.8-5.5x38) at $299. would be fine, as would a 2.5-8x36 or 3-9x36 Conquest, Leupold VX-3 or Kahles.  Whatever is available and is acceptable.  I have used the Roberts as a prairie dog rifle but would rather use a .22 CF or .243 with a flatter trajectory.

The Kimber rifle is a flyweight anyway.....you could put a three pound scope on it and still come out normal!!  Bandito

You really can't beat the value on those $299 Zeiss scopes right now - a few extra ounces is not going to be a deal-breaker.

I think the 2.5 x 8 is about right for the Roberts, I like the Zeiss better than the Leupold.

I don't see where the Zeiss is for sale for $299.  I am supposing it is on sale at SWFA but I can't find it.  Can anyone help?

You won't be able to mount the zeiss in low mounts. If thaqt is not an issue than no problem. I like my scopes as low as I can get them. Leupold and swaroski do this. My 257 select wears a 3x10 av just because I had it but a 2.5x8 is a perfect fit IMO.
