Just wanted to get some advice for the new A-R 15 I ordered today.

I might be taking shots at predators or hogs so I might use it up to 300 yards.

What scope and power would you buy for $100-250?  This gun only has the 16 in barrell so what works and looks best?  I am new to AR-15's so really have no clue about tactical scopes, etc.

Thanks

I shoot AK's not AR's so I'm used to a level of accuracy below what you're going to see, but to me for the money this would be my choice.

Hopefully others with more knowledge of the AR will chime in and make suggestions. To me it seems a good value and capable of doing what you're looking at doing. I'm not sure in your price range you're going to find anything with exceptional light gathering, so you'll be losing a little hunting time at dawn and twilight.

On my bushmaster I use a Nikon team realtree(bought it because it matched the guns finish), it has the nikoplex reticle and the glass is pretty good for the money. Scope is mounted in a S S A L T mount on the flat top, adjustments seem to track ok and it holds zero.
It was bought for coyote hunting here in the north east where anything over 100 yards in the woods is a rearity and for that yardage it is fine for my eyes but anything further out and I personally would need more magnification.
Nikon makes the "coyote special" and the team Primos and I know SWFA sells them in your price range. Worth giving them a look.
