I am trying to decide on a scope for a Remington VS 22-250.  The two scopes that I am looking at are the Burris Black Diamond 4X-16X-50mm with a Ballistic Mildot reticle and side PA adjustment and the Burris Signature Select 4X-16X-44mm with a Ballistic Mildot reticle and an adjustable objective?  Is a side focus or an adjustable odjective better for a varmint scope?  For a mounting system should I use Talley rings and bases or the Burris Dual Dovetail bases with Signature rings?  Thanks for any advice.

First, the Talley mounts and rings are excellent.  I prefer Warne mounts and QD rings.  The lever that tightens the rings can be adjusted to any position after tightening to make for a sleek looking set up.  As far as the scope is concerned, what are you going to use the rifle for; targets, varmints or both?

Dolphin,

The rifle will be used for both targets and varmints.  It will be my primary varmint rifle.  I use Talley's on by big game rifle because I have a back up scope that I can use on that rifle.  I am no so sure that I need a back up scope w/ QD rings for a varmint rig.

You can use the standard fixed Warne rings, but the QD rings are easier to put together, thats why all of my rifles are getting them.  Plus, I have alot of Wby. rifles and I can switch around scopes.  As far as your scope choices, the mildot, depending on the size may obscure your varmints at long distances.  There are so many choices, but Burris makes a good scope and if you like them that is what you should get.  Bushnell Elite 4200 and Nikon make some very good scopes that may be cheaper and you should definitely check those out.  On my Savage LP, I have a Mueller Eradicator and it is a great scope, but not in the class you are looking at.  Post some pics when ever you get the rig set up.

I recently put a nikon monarch III 4-16x42 on my 700 LVSF 22-250 and using Burris DD bases with signature rings

I don't think i will do back to regular rings after using signatures, so many advantages and they look nicer with out that ugly big elevation screw

scope is excellent too.

+1 on the Warne's. I like the Talley's, but am more partial to the Warne QD. A little file work on a Weaver base and I was swapping a scope between Remington and WinMod70 with excellent zero retention. Really good engineering.

My Remington 22-250 VS has a Burris 6-24 Signature in Leupold Dual Dovetail mounts. I am very happy with the set up. The Burris glass is very good for the money.

I have a Rem 700 VSF 22-250 with a Burris Black Diamond 4-16x50 Bal Mil Dot.  I really love the scope and the rifle.  I prefer the Side parallax.  I like the setup of 4-16.  For me it is plenty of mag for the longer shots, but low enough for short shots when coyote hunting.

The mounts I am using currently are Leupold rings and bases, but I will be switching to sig rings or warne QDs as soon as I can.
