I think I am obcessed with building rifles now, but anyway. I just finished building a 7mm rem mag and now I want to start a new project. I want to build a rifle that could be something like a tactical hunting crossover type. I have wanted to try a Trijicon Accupoint for a while. What is the glass quality Trijicon uses. I love the concept of the Accupoint but if it has inferior glass, I think I would rather pass. I just bought onw of the Nikon Monarchs that are on clearance. Would the Trijicon glass be comparable?

Urimaginaryfriend has the low down on Accupoints.

He's a big fan.

If he doesn't show up, hit him with a PM.

I'm sure he'd be happy to help you.

If at first you don't secede...try..try again.

While there is no better value right now than Monarch, the Trijicon is an entirely different beast and one with some fine and useful qualities. The glass in the Accupoint is quite acceptable. These scopes are tritium and fiber optic lit. You can buy some Monarch models that have a lit reticle but they rely on battery power and that is somewhat unreliable under extreme conditions. Batteries can be difficult to find in remote areas. The Accupoint uses a Post style reticle which is best suited for game at one set distance  or say 200 yds or closer. This is a great reticle for moving game. The 1.25-4 would be a good close in dangerous game gun. The 3-9x40 would be a good all around deer gun scope. The 2.5-10x56 would be a good choice for preditors at night. These reticles stay lit all night long. The down side is that Tritium seems to stop glowing after about 15  years.  I have a tritium sight in a pistol that was installed about 1982 and it is about worthless now but it served it's purpose back then and brought me in as top shooter at DPS Officer Survival School with a Texas Ranger coming in a close second even though he had dropped his model 19 and broken off the rear sight.

I love my  Nikon Monarch 2.5-10x42 mil-dot. It is perfect fit on my Savage 16 Weather Warrior 7mm WSM
Never trifle with a man who uses a single shot rifle. Odds are, he knows how to use it.
