Well I did it I ordered a new Savage rifle a Model 10FP in 7mm rem mag 20" savage bull barrel with a box magazine.
It may come with the new accu stock but I told Effie at savage it doesn't really matter because if it doesn't I will restock with a lrv from Stockey's and then bed it(probably won't need it).
I bought it to put my new 20x42ss on and decided that my monday morning remington wasn't worth it after rem said no to rebarreling it and the new savage is less than a custom barrel install(go figure).
I know it will bark louder than a big dog and kick like a pissed off mule but it is only for target and out to 300 yards, and I know you guys are going to say too much scope but I am getting old and the eyes aren't what they used to be.
It will take about 6 weeks but I was told all they needed too do was cut down a 24" barrel and install it on a long action so it may be sooner. If I can figure out how to post pics after it arrives I will do it.
Need to call SWFA to see about trading the rem for a trijicon 5-20 with green post.

I've got a short barreled .30-06 (17.75") and it's really not bad at all. As far as the scope goes, use what works for ya. So you got 6+ wks to get to 50 posts so you can show some pics. Better get busy! Edited by 300S&W - September/04/2009 at 07:11 |

300SS&W What do you mean I need 50 more post. Doesn't the forum allow pictures from anyone.
This new one will be decked out with a swfa scope and mounts from them also. But I may wait until it is restocked if it is needed, there is a chance that it will come with the new accu-stock.

He showed you a way to be able to post pics without having 50 posts. In order to have your pics hosted on the SWFA server you need to have 50 posts.

There are, but it keeps the effing spammers that come here just to advertise crap from posting pics on the site. Usually if someone goes to the trouble to make 50 posts they are here for the right reasons even if they just use the increase your post count thread.

Dowby77 The basic 10fp inn 7mm is going to be $841msrp. The dealer is charging me $800 and a laminated LRV stock from Stocky's is another $200, then I still need to scope it.
Not sure what scope yet, I was thinging a accu point 5-20 with the green triangle post but now that I have used my SS20x42 I am realy unsure. The difference in cost is $700 and I really liked the SS and seeing as how I will probably only use for punching paper out to 300-400 yards I don't think the difference is worth it.

So long as you are shooting in bright daylight the Super Sniper 20x should work fine where it would suffer is in low light it tends to look rather grey or in high heat you could have issues with mirage at really long range but at 200 to 300 you should be fine. Where the Trijicon becomes most useful is that you can dial down the power to brighten the image in low light and the illuminated reticle provides contrast against dark objects however for target shooting the crosshair or mildot version would be a better choice than the post. The post is a better hunting or tactical reticle as the illuminated area is larger and allows rapid target acquisition. How sharp the point of the triangle on the post appears can be controlled by shading the fiber optic with your hand or by closing the port over the fiber optic as it glows brightly it seems to diffuse some and rather round off the point of the triangle on that particular scope. I do like the Trijicon scope though but for your purpose it may not be needed. If you are benchrest shooting you might really enjoy the Super Sniper 10x HD because it has 1/10 mil clicks with its mildot reticle which allows you to poke a hole in the target measure in mils how much correction you need and correct in mils with no added math issues. Mil Mil scopes are very pleasant to use on the range and 10x would be a farily bright scope twice as bright as a 20x in the evening.
