Hello, I am looking for a scope for my Smith & Wesson M&P 15T during my 7 day waiting period.  I used to be in the military and didn't need a scope, so this is where you come in.  I do not have much experience with rifle/tactical scopes so I need your advice.

Here is what I am looking for...

Looking to spend $600 max., BUT, if for alittle more money and is worth it, I am open to spend more.  My range would be between 100 - 350 yards...I am going to use it for target, NO hunting.  I've read about the SWFA SS 3-9x42 which has received some great reviews, but wasn't sure if this would be over kill, and also is a "longer than tactical" scope.  I've also looked at the ELCAN which might be more the style I'm looking for.

Please let me know what you think, tell me what other items I will need to mount the scope.  The S&W is already set with the Weaver rail (correct?)

I would LOVE to have something had night vision, I know that there would be more $, but curious...any suggestion on this?

I like the Aimpoints.  To get good night vision you have to go to 3rd Gen, which is much more costly than your projected range.  1st and 2nd Gen stuff is reasonable for the technology at the time, but it has significant limitations.  What are you going to do with it?  If it comes to a time where you think you really NEED it, you want something that performs ALL THE TIME.  NV is an expensive toy...

Hyro, welcome to the OT!!

You just asked this question late last evening (on a Friday night), a little over 12 hours ago. Give it some time, you'll get plenty of feed back. Big Grin

The Aimpoint that Kickboxer suggested is an excellent choice and within your budget.

The SS variable you've been looking at is another home run. Thunbs Up

Thanks. Sorry, just didn't understand all the views but no response.

Anyway, I agree NV would be simply be a toy, I would rather spend the money on a better scope than pay for a feature I would probably never use, unless I had the chance to do night fire. Wow, never thought I would miss the Army, those were the days!

I guess I need a 101 on scopes, terminology and such.

Again, thanks!

You mentioned the Elcan as an option. I don't know if you're familiar with the Specter DR http://www.specterdr.elcan.com/ but I happen to have a used one up for sale right now. Shoot me an Email gtemp4@yahoo.com if you're interested.

It's definitely an awesome scope; tough as nails. I'd hang onto it if I didn't need the cash right now.
