That rifle should be plenty accurate for hunting. I would check the mounts before the ammo.

i agree doug this sounds like a base or ring issue, or possibly even a loose screw on the stock.

Brother, you may have to spin your scope around.
The W/E knobs should be @ 3:00 and 12:00 respectively.

Good observations CT and Pyro. Add check the scope.
I also do not want to think a .308 was chambered in an .06 and fired. I can't see the Remy extractor snapping over the rim of a .308 without going fully into the chamber. Though my 770 knowledge is limited.

If he's pushing 308's in a 06 might explain why it won't hit. I've heard of such beleive it or not. Shocked

I have never tried to use a scope mounted in that particular configuration... I may have to try that.

Methinks there is the smell of a codfish...

OK MH, what pyro is saying is that the bullets are seated WAY to far into the shell case. To be honest its hard to imagine this all the way around.  I would recommend you go to http://www.hornady.com/ballistics/internal.php and do a little reading on bullet cartridges The OAL pyro is writing about is Over All Length of the cartridge for a .308 it should be between 2.735 to 2.80 depending on the weight of the bullet loaded.    me thinks you funnin' this ol' red bone.

As mentioned, your OAL length on those rounds looks a little...short.

One tool that every responsible reloader needs, Meat is a good pair of calipers to measure the rounds OAL.
Do you have any of those?

They look like this.

Also, it would really help us to help you, if we knew what bullet your using. Weight and brand.
I'm guessing that those are match bullets or Barnes. Can you find that out for us or post another picture of just the bullet?

I'll post some pictures of what we are talking about tonight when I get in.
