Tired of all the "variables" in variable X scopes....Point of impact changes etc...   Searched the archives and found just one area that concerns me about the Super Sniper.....Brightness, resolution on the 20x seems to be not up to speed..???   Has the lens quality been upgraded over the years or not..??  What is the internal adj. range on the 20x,  and is it the same for all of them..?? Its a 30mm tube, how many inches are in there???  Any point of impact problems when you adjust parallex or play with diopter??   I just might feel like trying one .....

Sorry I wasn't quicker. The Super Sniper 20x has its good points and it's bad points. The good being that for $299 you have a 20x optic that has extremely reliable adjustment, easy to use knobs and works reliably. The down side of a 20x42mm scope is that it is not a very bright optic at dusk and dawn in low light levels. A 6x42 scope has a 7mm exit eye pupil thats (42/6=7mm) using the same math (42/20= 2.1mm) for a 2.1mm exit eye pupil or about 1/3 as bright as the best 6x optic with a 42 mm objective. For the 20 x to have a 7mm exit eye pupil the objective would have to be 140 mm so thats rather out of the question. The scope is a great scope I have used the 20X quite a bit and find that it is quite useable for many things and it is lots of fun in full daylight conditions for target or varmit shooting. It will adjust focus as close a 10 meters just try that with anything else. There have been several occasions that I have used it on a .223 Savage sniper rifle to stalk and watch animals. It is a lot more useable than most people would give it credit for. The 10x is by far the most popular of the SS models and for most people it is the best choice. But the 20x has its own special place and if you are drawn to high power optics this can be a fun scope. The flip side is that with a variable high power liike my Leupold 8.5-25x50 as it gets dark I can compensate by turning down the power to 8.5 which gives me a 5.8mm exit eye pupil where if I left it at 25x the 50 mm would only yield a 2mm exit eye pupil - not as bright as the 20x42 SS.

urimaginaryfrnd,  Thanx for getting back.. Yes, high mag optics are fussy.. The SS 20x would get me away from point of impact shifting problems that has plaeged me for so long (variables)..I figure if the variable x  is not there I wont play with it, problem solved..I looked at the SS many times, is the 20X lens a "low quality" dim or just a typical 20X dim..??  Read thru the archives, this was about the only negative that concerned me..  This SS has what, 100" Ele & wind built in.???

        Thanx again, 30

I doubt it is 100 moa built in but it could be. Leu 4.5-14 30mm tube has 100 moa built in but very few others have that much adjustment. Call SWFA to find out for sure.   I know that with my SS 20x zeroed at 200 yds 13.25 moa up was dead on at 600, and that left lots of room to go up.  I usually do not have much opportunity to shoot past 600 because I have really good access to the 600 yd range, but do have some access to the 1000 yd range just built here.  As for the glass I would say it is good but  of course not as good as the really expensive high end scopes. The bottom line is that it is plenty good enough to do what it is intended to do and it is a lot of fun for $299. It would be a really fun scope to put on a 22 mag or a 17 and zap crows with -low recoil you could just watch them explode. Really depends on what you are shooting.  I'd pick a lower power like 10x or even a 6x if I was after something that moved fast, but if it hesitates even a couple of seconds you can be on it pretty quick with the 20x. I do think the SS10x has better coatings on the new scopes that I have gotten in in the last few months than the 20x had that was bought about 3 yrs ago. The new 10x scopes are absolutely awesome. Do I like the 10x better than the 20x yes but the 20x still is a lot of fun and it's nice to have the extra magnification at times. I think that there are very few 20x out there most people are shy of them but it is a very fun scope and a lot more user friendly than you might think.
