I am raising cash for a scope.  Need new scope for my FN PBR XP .308.  Here are my choices:

SS 10x for 300.00 or 400.00

Or new Leupold 3.5-10x40 Mark 4 LR/T 30mm Riflescope with TMR for 699.00

Doing what with the rifle?
What is most important to you regarding this scope: clarity, low-light, durability, adjustment range, etc?

As Mithran said elsewhere, shoot allot.  If you have $700 in hand and buying the Leupy means no shooting for awhile, buy the SS.

The SS 10x is rock-solid but limited in its 10X, while the Leupy is a good scope (and with a mil discount is actually worth what you pay - in my opinion) and the variable range allows for more utility in a greater number of scenarios.

If you have the money to buy, mount, and shoot; Leupold (at that price)would  be the better all-around choice.  If you will never be shooting at moving targets, targets inside 100 yards, or in low light, the SS will do just fine - and leaves you money to buy good mounts and rings or start a reloading operation (if you don't already.)

In my humble opinion, the 10X SS is the best deal in tactical optics - and much of that is because Chris backs his optics the way all optics companies should (but few do.)  The 10X is bright, clear, tough, and repeatable. I prefer the side parallax adjustment, but only because I am trained to use them.  I shoot lefty as much as righty and it sucks, but training can get past most hurdles.

At the end of the day, buy the one you want most.  If you want the Leupy and buy the SS, you'll regret it shortly and end up with the Leupy anyway (my wife never understood this argument - why $3k for a USO when a Nightforce gets it done too) till I put it in terms of diamonds: should you buy a 1/3 carat diamond now and spend the rest of the money elsewhere or should you buy the 3-carat diamond now and spend your impoverished time looking at the pretty rock?

I can't believe I am saying this, but buy the Leupy. And don't skimp on mounts and rings.

You convinced me to go with the Mark 4.  You are correct about getting what you WANT.

Leupy Mk 4 it is.

Thanks for the info.

With his military discount, it is the right scope at the right price.

Sometimes integrity sucks, at least when it comes to my pride.
