Hi all, I’m a first time poster so be gentle! Who am I kidding – just wade right in Big%20Grin

I’ve been reading the forum for a while now and consider that you have taught me a fair bit – but its now the time to make a decision and outlay some $$$ on a new scope. I’ve got a few ideas, and also some restrictions:

- I’m a kiwi currently residing in the UK – so am limited in where I can buy from (unfortunately I can’t buy from SWFA or the samplelist)

- I’ll be taking the scope back to NZ so am after reliability and sound warranty

 - Scope is to mount on a sako 270 (just bought it sight unseen - but it is likely to get rebarreled to 280 rem) for deer stalking 20m-400m shots, so minimum magnification of 2-3, maximum magnification of ~9-14,

- don't want a huge objective, limit it to 40-44mm

- finger adjustable and resettable turrets preferred

- Budget ~US$600 (by the time shipping and duty is added this will cost ~US$800 all up)

Ideas so far include:

- IOR 2.5-10x42 HUNTING model with 4a reticle

- Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 or 3.5-10x44

Any comments, suggestions?

Cheers

Any of those would be a quality scope.  But with the Zeiss I sure would not spend $200+ more for the 1x more power you get with the 3.5-10x, but that is just me.
All three use excellent quality Schott Glasswerk glass.

nzspearo, Welome to the OT forum. I don't know anything about the IOR scopes, but I do have a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 on my main deer hunting rifle, and I LOVE IT!!! For the price ($399-$450) American dollars it's pretty hard to beat. High quality glass, solid construction, and a really crisp etched reticle. I think you will find this scope to be perfect for your deer hunting back in New Zealand. I purchased this scope and never had any regrets. First class all the way. Good luck, and happy hunting!   Bricat

Both are good choices however I might be more inclined to buy the IOR 4-14x50 with 4a reticle. I really prefer a little more power something in the 14 to  16 range on the top end.  I  usually hunt from a fixed position with a solid rest.

3-9X40 Conquest!  This will be my next purchase as well..... I really like the 4" of eye relief!

BTW.......... changing from .270 to .280 is cool and Pyro will love to hear about it!

Zeiss Conquest sounds great to me.  Either one will work nicely.  I have a .280 and like it a lot.  Bullets up to 165 grains, which is heavier than the .270 has available, yet the versatility to go down to the 139/140 grain.  I had one before pyro had one!
