Besides me...........
The Warden's going to have my butt in a sling over this, but I HAVE to get the new and improved Monarch. I'm thinking about the 4-16x42 unit, with the Nikoplex reticle.

I'll probably get one later in the year, just so that I could find something negative to say about it
I would be more interested in a 2.5-10x42 version, though. ILya |

I don't see any lit reticles on the new 1" tubers. The X offers one.
Which reticle you guys considering?
I'd really like to get the BDC reticle, but I'm worried I can't shoot groups with it.
Koshkin, doesn't your Monarch have the BDC? Is it too thick in the center for me? |

The BDC reticle was a little thicker than I like for target shooting, but I recall shooting a few groups in the 0.5-0.75 MOA range with it which is really the limit of my ability even on a good day, irrespective of the reticle.

Thanks, O Evil One.
Hmmmm.......I might rethink the mighty Nikoplex reticle option.
The Nikon rep in another thread mentioned some kind of "interchangeable turret technology" deal. I wonder if we will be able to switch the low profile turrets, as the scope in the picture has, with target turrets........ THAT would really make me do a happy dance!!.... |

I got one last week, had to send it back because the left horizontal crosshair was defective. Looked like
it was bent or had hole in it. Also was disappointed with the amount of MOA. I love Nikon scopes, but somehow expected more out of it. |

Sorry to hear that, but I believe you had the "older" model of Monarch, correct? Don't think the new ones are out yet. |

I plan on getting a 4X16 with a mil-dot. You can purchase target knobs to switch with the hunting turrets. I think you can do a lot more with a mil-dot than with a BDC. WIth a mildot at least you have the ability to hold over mil's into the wind. I wish they were not so caught up on the BDC and offered mil-dots on all models. I also prefer the Burris ballestic plex over the BDC for aiming, but that is just my opinion. I sure wish I knew when they were getting here?????

Good point about mil dot vs. BDC.
IF....I can get target turrets, as you say I can even on the 4-16 model, I'll probably go with a Nikoplex. |

I have tried to get a price on the turrets, but no one knows what it will be. The 5-20 and 6-24 will come with both sets and a sunshade and are the better deal. I would like to have had the 5-20 but no mil-dot available on the higher powers which I think is a mistake, plus I wasn't comfortable with the elevation and windage adjustment range they offered, the 4-16 at 40 is about as low as I want to go. Can't wait for them to get here!!!!!!! |

Sorry, I already have one on my Savage tactical rifle and I love it, but I want something different on my Encore just to have somethig different to compare. If the new ones are optically the same I will not be disapointed. I was at the range the other day and a guy was bragging about his scope and wanted me to look through it. I did and was curtious and said how nice it was. Then I looked though my Monarch set at 20 power (his was on 12) and it made his look like I was looking through the windows on a fireplace, very yellow. That is a great scope your selling, perhaps I should just buy a new gun to give me an excuse to buy it. |
