Gents (Ladies),

I am new to this forum and confused as to what manufacturer (model) provides the best blend of attributes for my needs after reading  the "Optics Rating Scale" in depth.

I am looking for an optic for primary use on my DSA FAL Tactical (.308), with occasional use on my POF415 AR platform...I will likely mount via La Rue LT104.

I currently use red-dots for daily use and want a scope that can both replace my primary 1x's (EOTech 553 and Aimpoint M3) as well as provide some "reach out & touch someone" at a moments notice.  I have tried the "3x" modules and an not happy with their performance.

Here is what I am looking for:
  • Mid Range Tactical use (1 - 4/5/6x)
  • Illuminated Reticle (incl. good daylight performance)
  • Good point & shoot ability...1x with both eyes open
  • General Ruggedness
  • Lifetime Warranty (No BS Customer Service)
  • While cost is always an object, I'd rather pay $2k for a scope today and have it for 25 years, than pay $750 and either wish I had another one or have to replace in in 3 years.
Here is my current "shortlist" in order of street price (not preference) that I have compiled thus far:
  1. S&B Short Dot 1.1 - 4
  2. Swarovski z6i 1 - 6 (Circle Dot)
  3. Kahles CSX 1.1 - 4
  4. US Optics SN4(s) 1 - 4
  5. NightForce NSX 1 - 4
  6. Leupold MR/T M2 1.5 - 5
  7. IOR 1.1 - 4
  8. Meopta 1 - 4
I am immersing myself in this as well as a few other forums and get a ton of conflicting information..I could really use some direct & well informed opinions.  Please let me know your experiences / opinions - any all would be appreciated.

Thanks...hopefully I end up wanting a scope that SWFA sells, seems like a great store.

Mike

Well there is one optic that you have left off! The Trijicon TR 21, alot of 3 gunners use this optic, it doesnt have batteries. But it does have ILLUM during the the day as well in the night.  Im guessing alot of folks will say to go with the SB but do you really need to spend that kind of money for what your wanting to do?

i have used both the trijicon and the s&b short dot. i have to say, i was awfully impressed with the sb. truly amazing. but i choked when i saw the price. it really is ridiculously expensive, but very cool and very functional.

i would probably lean towards the triji; but i would get triji dialed for 308, and enjoy it on the fal. but that would not be ideal for the ar.

also i don't have any experience with the others on the list, which i'm sure are also quality units.

If you are wanting more distance than what you get with your EOTech I really think the next logical step up starts at 2x and this one has a lot going for it when you start talking 200+ yds
