Check out the front cover of the 3/09 issue of "Shooting Times"........Marlin`s new 45-70 stainless Guide Gun; Model 1895 SBL.ExcellentExcellentExcellent

A re-designed and larger lever handle, a pistol grip and longer tubular magazine. As usual, one can also mount a scout scope or go the conventional route.

From Metcalf`s chrony results, the 18.5" barrel loses 6% in overall velocity vs the 24" 45-70 tubes.

I disagree with his choice for a scope on that rifle. Over magnified.

Just another new "Squeezer Special"...........I like it!....ExcellentExcellentExcellent

I want one too.  May have to sell my guide gun.  45-70 is a great cartridge.  I shoot 405gr hard lead at about 1700fps.   Big hogs don't know what hit them.
