Looking at that new marlin 30-06 bolt action at the shop.
Looks well made and gunmagazine stories have praised it.
Anyone here actually shot it? looks like a real bargain
if it shoots as well as claimed. tks.

Along with the base Weatherby Vanguards at $399, the Marlin bolts are a good bang for the buck. I haven`t shot one yet, but I have read the write ups and handled one. They are a good looking rifle with a very smooth action.

As far as I know, the 25-06, 270 and 30-06 are the only three offerings. That I`m sure will change with more chamberings coming later.

I own the 270 and the 30-06. Both shoot 1"-1.5" grps. Rugged guns. Ideal for the heavy  brush hunting we have in Alabama. Bought both at Academy Sporting Goods for $279 ea. Mounted relatively inexpensive ProStaff scopes. Great little rigs I would not hesitate taking anywhere. It appears Marlin "borrowed" the bolt design from Winchester and the trigger from Savage. Probably one of the best values on the market. My gunsmith says the barrels are a little rough at first, but they all seem to shoot less than 2" grps right out of the box.

Never seen one. But if they build them anything like the lever guns they build, you can bet they are good!

From examing the rifle I would suggest that the bolt design and barrel installation was borrowed from Savage, the trigger from Glock and the style from Remington 700.
Thy have now announce a short action version as well. I hope some barrel makers will bring out longer & heavier barrels soon as a barrel change is as simple as a Savage (wrench and headspace gauge)
