I have narrowed it down to the 2 Bushnells; Elite 4200 4-24x50 Mildot Elite 6500 4.5-30x50 Mildot Is the extra dough warranted for the 6500? I like everything on it except the turrets - If it had the 4200 knobs it would be a done deal... Any aftermarket knobs available for the 6500? |

Don't bother with the 4200 then. It only has 50 MOA total. It is not going to be capable of doing what you want.
I would get the 6500 but get the 2.5-16x instead. 24 to 30 is pure overkill. I shoot to 1000 with 10 to 12x and do just fine. Higher mag equals, more mirage, less exit pupil, more shake in your sights, harder to find targets, easier to bounce off target on recoil, ect ect. |

I think you are going to be fine with the powers you are looking at. The fact that they are variable is a good thing. You can always dial down when needed. Bench shooting with the higher powers is nice if that's all you are planning to do with the scope. Then again, with the 6x erector, you have the powers that are best for hunting applications as well. 6500 Elite would be my first choice between the ones you have listed.

I was wondering if there are any aftermarket knobs as well. I know Kenton makes custom knobs with trajectories but these are built on the factory knobs if I understand correctly.
Btw, Bushnell is supposed to offer the 2.5-16x42 and the 4.5-30x50 with target turrets for 09. the 6500's have 80moa vs 45moa for the 4200 you are looking at. better for 1000yrds

thanks for the replies!
While it aint perfect well see what she'll do. I ordered the Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24x50 mildot from ebay with my 10%ebay coupon and the $153 microsoft coupon - I hope that one comes in 60 days like its supposed to... so paid about $300 for it which seems like a steal to me compared to what they seem to sell for... Hopefully its all that, I cant find a Ken Farrell 20MOA base so I just got the Burris 2pc tactical picatinny mounts for SAKO dovetail with the Burris XTR Mediums and some butler Creeks. Hopefully it works out - will put some serious time on it soon. |
