Hi everyone.  I have purchased my first rifle that can acceptably take a scope.  All my others (C&R war rifles, lever actions) happily use irons.

It is a Tikka T3 Scout CTR in .308 with a built-in Picatinny rail.  What I need to buy next,  don't know.

What are some good rings that would fit this?  There seem to be so many available, I'm not sure what to look for.

I also need help with a scope.  From reading, I believe I want something in the 3x9 range.  It will be for target shooting first, perhaps hunting as a distant second sometime in the future.  My expected range will not exceed 300 yards.

Thank you.

There are tons of choices. I kind of like TPS rings...they don't cost a fortune and are very well made. Regarding scopes, budget (as already mentioned) info will help with recommendations.

Thanks for the replies.  I have a budget of around  $500 for the scope.  As for rings, whatever works best on a Tikka + Picatinny.

Now, how does one find out if I need low, medium or high rings?  Is that a personal "fit" issue?  Should I go to a store and try some out?

Thanks again.

Not knowing anything about optics, I ended up purchasing Burris Xtreme tactical rings (medium) and the Zeiss Conquest 3x9-40 scope.  I hope it will all work okay.
