Let's not forget a Sako 85 Finnlight, with a 20 7/8" barrel, at 6 lbs. 3 oz.  Guaranteed accuracy, with an action as smooth as silk.  Or, you may choose a Deluxe, Hunter, Greywolf, etc.

Want a shoot-off with those Remingtons, pyro? Big Grin

I know your Remingtons work for you pyro.  Just messin' around.  But those Sako 85's are darn good rifles, without having to spend the extra cash on a Timney trigger.

as long as you buy a remington without the xmark pro trigger, you can adjust them quite nicely, i really like the factory trigger on my 673 remington, i wish i could adjust the trigger on my 788remington though, that baby is a real sleeper.
sako does make very nice stuff, i wish i could afford rifles in that price range.

the only reason i like rem is because winchester closed the factory down a few years ago, and im not on board with the new m70's yet, im waiting to see if they will expand there choice of chamberings before i buy another m70, the new ones have a replica pre64 action on them though so they will be nice.

I should not be messing with brav302, though.  Some of those Sako's cost twice as much as a CZ.  He could still get one for under $900 though.

Otherwise going to a Tikka T3 can save one a lot of money, and there might not be a better bang for the buck than Tikka.

I would suggest you buy stainless. There are several worth consideration. If you can find a Remmington 700 there are lots of gunsmiths that can do accuracy work on one. The Tika / Sako rifles with the Sako extractor are nice guns. The Ruger seems to be very nice also with its claw extractor. As for blue guns the Savage 10FP 20 in barrel is a nice shooter.  A lot depends on what you are able to spend. If you can afford a custom gun GAPrecision will build you one. If a single shot would work a Custom bullberry barrel on top of a TC  Encore frame will kill all the deer you can eat.  http://www.bullberry.com/

I just bought a Rem. xcr compact tactical in a .223 but it also comes in a .308. I absolutely love the gun.........it's stainless coated with the trinite finish, has the custom shop trigger, 20" tactical fluted bull barrel, bell&carson stock. Just a great package..........but more than your talking about........still worth a look though !!

Thanks for all the input I ran across a model 700 sps tactical at the gun show today that I picked up.  I will give it a try and see if it gives me what I'm looking for if not there may be one for sale shortly.

what caliber is it in .308?
yikes it has an xmark pro trigger on it, i would strongly suggest you buy a new trigger for it if you want to adjust it any.

I did go with the .308.  Yes the tax free helped in my decision.  I was realy surprised at the lack of .308 at the show but this one seems to balance nice, short barrel and was real steady with that heavy barrel and its not too heavy either.  The trigger seems to be fine dosn't seem to creep and the pull seems light enough.  I guess I will know more after I get it to the range.

I know you alrdy got your gun (great pick btw)

I just wanted to let you know for the future if your looking for another rifle your MUST get a CZ.  Not sure I will buy another new rifle from anyone else.  I got the CZ 550 American in 270.  The wood is GREAT and shoots 1/2 inch groups.  No need for a new trigger because they all come with a built in single set trigger that helps a TON.

great choice on your gun I just wanted to tell you how nice CZ's actually are since no one posted about them.

Also, CZ's only have long actions SO if you get something like a 308 it comes with a clip that some people might liek some might not.  I went with teh 270 just because I play to hike around alot with it and didn't see the need to get a long action rifle for a short action caliber like the 308 hehe, but having a clip would be nice IMO.

Cool!!   Thunbs Up    If I was in the market ( read: if I ever had any money ) for a new rifle, I would be looking at the CZs immediately and would probably just go and get one without even looking at any other comparably priced rifles................well, Tikka would be in the running........but, I would just plan on the Tikka for next time!     Bucky

Thanks for the info on the CZ.  I hit the range today and was not very happy with the groups I was getting.  I'm headed back tomorrow with different ammo hopefully it will like this stuff better.  If I can't find something that it will group with in a good hunting round it may be looking for a new home.
