Well, everyone convinced me that the .458 Lott was probably too much rifle to use regularly for deer hunting so I downsized...

Still Ruger #1, but .458 WinMag.

Oh boy I wish I had one of those. I just bought a Lee .458 bullet mold and Lee sizer for my 45-70 pistol. I could use the same bullet.   It's been a while since I had a .458 but they are a pleasure to reload.

No, I think he uses F-350's for driving deer............it fits with the whole overkill theme. Of course I've killed deer with a 22-250, but now shoot a .300 mag, so I'm not really one to talk.

That is a nice looking rig. I've always liked the #1's.

Thank you.  Scope is a Pentax Gameseeker 4x32.  Has pretty good glass... I got it for low light hunting because it was difficult to see the front on the Lott with iron sights.  The Lott has only iron sights, again.  I think I'm going to just put a dot of luminescent paint on the front sight and keep it iron.

RPG, thats funny.  KB, good thing is you can still make those quartering away shots just fine with out any fear of penetration as long as you use the AP rounds.

KB you remind me of a friend of mine. If it doesn't hurt to shoot it, it's not worth shooting. And the guy doesn't like painLoco.

I used to be into the martial arts too, so I know what you mean, but as I have gotten older I find that I no longer enjoy recoil like I used to (even though I want to shoot an 03 Springfield at a CMP match), but if ow follows bang on the first few shots, I really don't want to become proficient with it.

I am going to sight in the .458 WinMag tomorrow.  Then I am going to use the target with 458 bullet holes to practice with the Etronx 220 Swift.  Any 220 shot that shows up is a miss...458 holes are the target.

Lets hear it for target conservation.

Didn't get to sight in today.  I made the mistake of mowing first... pollen is OFF THE CHARTS.  Perhaps the worst allergy attack I've ever experienced.  Couldn't even set up a target, much less shoot at it.
A form of target conservation, I guess...

I just had probably the worst day of shooting I've had since the first time I picked up a rifle.  I bought some new DG ammo for the 458 WinMag.  The WinMag is certainly not as accurate as the Lott.  Best I could do is 3rnds in 1in at 100.  I decided to zero them both at 100, so I moved to the Lott with open sights.  The first two rounds were touching each other right on the edge of the bull.  I made the mistake of firing 3 more.  They were all around outside edge of the x ring, but they sure were spread out.  No wind, perfect weather conditions, just plain poor shooting.

I just thought of something... for over a year, every shot I've taken has been left handed.  For some reason, today, I shot right handed.  Didn't do it consciously, just did...  I usually trade out about every other range session, but for some reason got on a left handed kick.  Wonder why I just shot right handed???  Wonder if I am just out of practice right handed?
