Finally got my custom rifle.  It is built on a Savage action (long 112).  Manners stock.  Brux 22" barrel with muzzle brake.  It is removable and threaded 5/8x24 so I can run my suppressor on it.

This last picture is the first group at 1033 yards.  It is an 8" group.  The gun will shoot better, but the goon behind the gun messed it up.  I am sure it will do 3" groups or better with a good shooter behind it.

Shooting 140 gr Berger with 46.5 gr RL-17 kicking out about 2785.  At 2785 with a BC of .311 G7, all my numbers in the computer match perfectly out to 1180 yards.

The rifle's name is "Morticia".

My modest contribution to the 6.5 world, it is a 6.5-06, 24 inch, 1-8 twist McGowen D4 contour barrel.

I bought the scope in 2003 from SWFA, it is a 4.5-14X40 Weaver Grand Slam.

Reformed 30-06 brass, necks turned down to .288, CCI 200 primers, and H1000 power

I shoot the relatively inexpensive 140 grain 6.5 Barnes Match Burner and 140 6.5 Hornady Amax

Extreme spreads are quite low, in the range of 25-35 fps. and at 500 meters it can hit pop can size steel. The better of the 2 groups measures .44 inch @ 200 yards.

Good to see G7 BC's, very little BC variation over entire velocity range, possibly in the order of 2% and that's why things match up so well on the computer. Also those 6.5 bullets are of the low drag type, and G7 BC = Sectional density / form factor. Form factor or drag less than standard 1. This is why 6.5 guys make hits on 1000 yard steel

I have another real fancy 6.5-06 with a 1950's vintage FN action and an European walnut stock and all the rest. This rifle sits in the safe contained in a gun-sock and is hauled out 1X per year to shoot rodents.

In the works is 6.5-06 #3, having a 26 inch, D6 contour 1-8 barrel, laminated stock, and some type of scope having a 50mm objective and up to 24X. Open for suggestions on the scope.

rodents.

When I am forced into really fine shooting I switch to my 6.5X47 Lapua and that using H4350 gets just over 2700 with a 26 inch barrel, same bullet, same twist.Wink

a few yrs back [ 10-12 yrs ] a friend and i had a cpl 6.5-284's built for long range hunting.
while my friend was working up a cpl good loads this this we found 2 things that really added to tighter groups was using fed match primes and reloader 22 . we could get a little better fps out of them with reloader 25 but reloader 22 was tighter groups. we all know that not all rifles shoot there best groups with the same load so i am just adding these things you if you have not tried them yet.
i am lucky with my 6.5 as it will shoot many loads very well. the best was with the old A-max in 140 gr in front of 52.5 gr. reloader 22 using fed match primers in norma brass

your 1000 yrd group looks like you are already on the right track Big Grin
