Has anyone tried the new Bushnell 6-24X40 Elite 4200 yet?   I'm thinking about putting one on a 204 AR15 varmit rifle that I'm building.

When you say "new" do you mean the bew version that has side focus?

If that is the case, I do no think it hit the shelves yet.

I have on with AO on my 22-250 varminter and I am very happy with it.

yep that's the one.  13" instead of 16" long.

I do not think anyone has seen it yet.  It does look interesting due to its advertised specs: lighter weight, shorter length and 4.6" of eye relief (with correspondingly smaller field of view).  Sounds like a great scope for a long range rifle with a kick.

Unfortunately, they say it will only focus down to 24 yards parallax free, and that is at it's lowest mag of 6x.

Can anyone confirm this?

thanks

If you want a scope that can go below 6X and focus less than 24 yards you are looking at the wrong class of scope.  This is a long range varmint scope, period.

Bushnells own website says: "Side parallax focus from 10 yds. to infinity"

Llike the old model with the front focus ajustment...

But itsn't true.

Maybe so, but my previous statement still stands.  Even if you can focus at 10yds. at even 6X you will see nothing but a blob of hair.

No maybe, it's sure.

About the minimum focus: it depends on how smaller the target is (I'm an airgunner)...

We have them in stock

Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24x40 Side Focus, Mil Dot.....$488.95

The 6-24 Elite 4200 has been one of our best selling air gun scopes for years because of its high magnification combined with its ability to focus a very close range....partly due to the long tube and focal length.

I unboxed one with an adjustable objective and the new (shorter) side focus to compare how close they will focus.  The longer a/o version will go down to 10 yards and the new short side parallax version will focus down to 25 yards.

The new side focus version does not come with a sun shade like the a/o version does.  The power selector has 12x marked in red to indicate what power the mil-dot reticle is calibrated for.

Really good looking scope.  I think the compromise in length making the scope not focus as close was a good one.  The 16.9" length of the a/o version kept a lot of people from buying one.  The new short version is 13" and one of the shortest 6-24's made.

Very Nice ....

My understanding is that not only is a Sunshade NOT included with the side focus model, but I heard that the objective is not even threaded to accept one .... Can you take a look at one and see if that's the case?

What's the tube diameter and total elevation available on the side parallax units?

The objective is threaded but who's to say it is for a sunshade. Most scopes will be threaded but for assembly purposes. I tried a sunshade from the 40mm A/O but it was too big. Let us know what you find out Macky when you call Bushnell.

Tube diameter will be 1".

The side focus model will have a total of 40 inches at 100 yards....which is up from the longer adjustable objective version (26" @ 100).

Bushnell says 'We don't make a sunshade for that scope.  If we did it would be included with the scope'

I asked if anyone knew if the thread was a standard and if all it was a matter of is finding the correct diameter ... they did not know.

I'm going to call back tomorrow and see if I can get connected with someone in 'engineering' or the likes of 'engineering'

So for now ...... Duh, no answer

I've got a question for all you 'optics engineer types' out there ..... is there anything different about the design of this scope that would make the optics inferior to the AO model.

I have the AO model on a 223 Savage and the optics are bright and crisp .... meaning the whites are really white the blacks are really black and lines are crisp and clear.  Any reason that this one would deliver less?
