Looking for alittle input into a choice of new binoculars.

I have had a pair of Nikon atb 10x42 for the past 4 years and with a little wear and tear ( some lense scratches but unnoticeable when viewing) and i think that they are great.

However, i'm thinking of upgrading to better bino's.  I was looking in the $500 range (eg vortex vipers, minox etc) but was wondering if there is enough of a noticeable difference in my nikons to warrant a purchase.

OR should i just wait a little and upgrade to bushnell elite, minox hg, vortex razors etc...

I think Nikons Monarchs are pretty much the gold standard unless you are stepping up to higher end Zeiss, Leica, Swarovski binoculars.

Personally, I would just keep what you have already.  I think you are goign to end up spending $500 and not ending up any happies than you are with what you currently own.  Maybe the only thing that I would look at if you already have the 10x42s are a pair of 12x56's or something with better light gathering ability and more zoom.....however there is a BIG weight tradeoff for that jump (i.e.  double the weight of what you are carrying now).

My "little input" would be to go to some major sporting goods stores, in the Long Island area, and start looking through and handling as many binoculars as you can find, in your price range, until you discover "the One" that you are most impressed with.

You just need to get out there and do some testing on your own, because, no two individuals are alike.

Comparing different makes and models will be the best "learning experience" for you, and it is alot of fun as well.

The Nikon Monarch has it rightful place in the binoculars line-up, however, there are "much better" binoculars from Nikon than the Monarchs.

If you like roof prism binoculars, there is the Nikon Premier LX(L) series.

If you like porro prism binoculars, there is the Nikon Premier SE series.

These two models actually represent the "gold standard" in Nikon Binoculars for hunting and birding.

As far as moving up to a 12x56mm is concerned, that is more of a "specialty" item, due to its size and weight factors, and the need to be mounted.
No one would feel comfortable carrying those around their neck while walking through the fields.
