I'm located in Belgium but we don't have a nice forum like this one, I am asking for some advise:

I'm looking for a decent 10x42 Bino with good optical performance and clear image, after reading onto the internet I managed to narrow it down a little:

Pentax DCF ED 10x43 (this is rated at a higher price but I can buy it second hand, only 6 months old)
Vortex Viper 10x42
Bushnell Elite ED 10x42
Nikon Monarch 10x42, this one is less expensive but acc. to several reviews it fits in nicely between the others.

Bino will be used for bird and nature watching, not for insects on close range. I realy like a clear highly contrasted image. Someone who has experience with the Pentax ?

Thx

I have used the Pentax, was pleasantly surprised.  This bino gets good reviews on the bird-watcher forums, so it would be a good choice.

I have the Viper HD in 6x32, like them allot.

I have no experience with the last 2.

Good luck.

My mother-in-law has a 10X42 Nikon Monarch, and I've used it quite a bit.  She loves it, but I personally don't think it's in the same league as the other 3, either in terms of image quality or construction quality.  This assumes you're talking about the regular "plain Jane" Monarch, not the most recent "enhanced" variations still bearing the Monarch name, which I haven't seen yet.

I would also say the Monarch is not in that league. How about removing it from the list and replacing it with the Zen Ray ED3? That would be my short list.

Onother question appears to me: As the Pentax is more expensive then the others, sholdn`t it be better ?

What about the Viper ?

Zen Ray is not an option, not enogh distributers in Belgium

More expensive doesn't alway mean better. If it were me I would go with the Vortex with Pentax being a close second.

To be honest the Viper was my preference, however I can buy the Pentax for less:

600 EUR for the Viper
450 EUR for the Pentax - second hand - no warrantee
470 EUR for Bushnell Elite ED

If the Pentax is that price I'd grab it in a heartbeat.  There are few better views anywhere at any price.  FOV is a little less than normal, but it's a world class view for sure.

I've had the Nikon... it is adequate... Nothing to scream from mountaintops about.
The Pentax is excellent...
Vortex Viper is a better value.   Been a while since I looked at VV, but I thought VV and Pentax were VERY close with a fairly large price differential.
