I assembled my first upper receiver which turned out far better than I could have hoped all because of the quality of the parts. It's a 20" precision..ish range toy and it needs a scope. I'm in the process of collecting parts for the lower so I'm pretty limited on funds. I've narrowed it down to 3 prospects that are in my price range though the Vortex is pushing things to the ragged edge.
I'm leaning towards the SWFA.

You would be happy with the SWFA SS 3-15x42 the SS 3-9x42 would be my preference but I have used both. https://www.swfa.com/swfa-ss-hd-3-9x42-tactical-30mm-riflescope.html?___SID=U
The 3-9 is a bit more compact but I much prefer its single screw holding the turret caps so when you reset to zero you are not adjusting three hex screws. Odd as this may sound I really like a low power illuminated optic on an AR like 2x or 3x Compact ACOG or a 1-4 or 1-6 Trijicon Accupoint. While this is a second focal plane scope I think this 2.5-12would be a fast scope on an AR Really you would not go wrong with any of those choices. I put an Athlon 6-24x50 on an 18 in AR recently just because nothing else (AR) is higher power than the 3x compact ACOG but it feels bulky compared to red dots and ACOG scopes so it may move to a bolt action eventually. I had one of these on one a while back and really liked it: https://www.swfa.com/trijicon-1-4x24-accupoint-30mm-rifle-scope-10.html?___SID=U I just zero at 200 yds and know where it hits at 100 and 300 and that is about ideal for .223 / 5.56 If I go longer it's with heavier calibers. It all depends on how you are going to use the rifle. Edited by Urimaginaryfrnd - May/20/2022 at 14:00 |

Can't recommend Vortex enough. Been my go-to brand for years + got lucky with a good deal and snagged Vortex Dimondback 3.5 for half a price. Can't wait to give it a proper test once I go to shooting range!
